missing channel

Hello!
A full channel scan finds lots of BBC HD channels, including News 24 HD (DVB-T2)
Playing any of the channels EXCEPT NEWS 24 HD works fine... NEWS 24 HD, which I understand to be on the same multiplex, doesn't work....

The only way I can get it to show is to delete it from the DVB-T2 devices and leave it only on the DVB-S device... that way it simply switches to the satellite to pick it up...

Any idea what it would find the channel no problem, but refuse to play it!?!

OK - I lied apparently.... it's on a different multiplex... COM7 - it's the only channel from that Multiplex that IS picked up annoyingly and it doesn't work... Do you think it just means it's low powered and doesn't reach me properly??? Any way to get them to turn up the dial!?!?!

I doubt if you can get them to pump up the volume... but have you checked UKTVFree to see if there are any problems with your transmitter?

Lots of people have problem picking up the new temporary COM7 mux on transmitters where its available because it is often 10db down on power compared with other mux. Assuming your aerial is ok and correctly oriented then the only solution may be a better high gain aerial!!

Like Chris says, a directional antenna with high gain (lots of elements) can make a world of difference. An amplifier connected as near the antenna as possible can also help if you have a long cable, but be careful not to overload your tuner.

Thanks.... I'll investigate the aerial.... so you can overload the tuner then!?!? I'm guessing if the signal coming in is too strong!? How would I know whether I'm overloading / about to overload it!?

If you do mount an amplifier, make sure it has adjustable gain and start low, scan and adjust up if the result is not good. Unfortunately there is no reliable software to measure the signal strength from a tuner (unless it is supplied by the manufacturer) so you'll have to cut-and-try. A signal that is too strong will prevent the tuner from locking properly, and in worst case can blow the tuner. Happens very rarely thou.

For UK Freeview a 40 element Log Periodic is about the best you can get for pulling in a weak signal (It's what repeater transmitters usually get their feeds with) The only drawback is you need to take care setting them up as they are very directional.
