I hope I'm in the right place... my question has to do with the Auto-Search function in NEWA. I recently switched from usb tuners and a basic HDHR to a HDHRPrime for digital through a cablecard. So, with the change over I lost a lot of my seasonal reoccurring recordings as the channels all changed. I was hoping the Auto-Search would run each day and when the show appears I'd get some sort of notice so I can schedule it. I know there's a auto-record function, but I'd rather have a bit of control over what actually gets scheduled.

I really don't think I understand exactly how it's supposed to work though. I "think" it's supposed to automatically run the saved searches each day a hour after the EPG update and I think I have it working. But how or were do I get the results? I would think there would be a RSS feed, web page or something to see what showed up if anything, but maybe I'm wrong???

Can someone educate me please? I searched, but everything I found was really old and didn't really apply to the new versions.

Thanks

Auto search will run the 1st time you access NEWA in the day following your EPG Update time.

There is a command line version of auto search that I did update recently... but I can't remember I posted it. :-) There is an older version stuck in the top of this forum but I think there is a newer version floating around somewhere. You can set it to run on the task scheduler so you don't need to log into NEWA to kick it off each day.

But my question is how or were do I access the results of the auto-search? Is NEWA supposed to display the results the first time you open it after the search or does it create a link or something?

I think the auto-search just sets reminders in the NEWA EPG I don't know of a page you can just browse.

I guess I'm just not getting it... what's auto-search is supposed to do if it doesn't create some sort of viewable list or something? I'm so confused

Auto search is simply a saved search that is executed automatically. And if you set the indicator to auto-record it will set the results of the search to record without any user interaction or screen viewing.

So say you have a search where you AR looking for chipmunks. ..you set that you only want to search on certain channels for a certain time range. Since you really like chipmunks you decide to save the search so you don't need to re-key it in every time.

When you go to the search page your saved search is now available within the drop down..select it and your search criteria is reset on the page.

Now you are going on vacation and you don't want miss any chipmunk stuff so you open the saved search and check the flag to auto record and save the search to persist the update.

Now when that search is executed it's results will automaticall be set to record.

Now you are tired of going into search page to select your saved search to have the results automatically record. So you bring up your saved search and now set the indicator to auto-search and you save the search to persist the change.

Now when you log into newa that search will execute and record the results without you doing anything.

So I understand the search runs every day after the EPG update and it can set the "search" results to update the database to record automatically. I guess I was under the assumption that the results were saved somewhere and rather than automatically set them to record, I could view a list of the results and then decide if I want to record.

Maybe an idea for a new feature or am I the only one who thinks that might be handy???

I use AutoRecord then look through the results everyday to see what I don't want to record... much the same amount of effort really... Smile

Of course, I work on the "it's much better to record something Mrs ACTCMS doesn't want to watch rather than not record something she does" principal...

Just save the search with no auto record or run....then when you want to see results just go to search and pull up the saved search and run it....then if the results show something you like select it to record.

I think he wants to the results of all auto searches in one query. That makes sense to me otherwise it is not really automatic
