In the release notes for the current version it says:

sub Wrote:- the multi-record feature is now possible on analog/HDPVR/HDPVR2/Colossus/IPTV/Prime devices. For these types of devices it's not as useful as digital tuners, but still gives some advantages like the ability to get overlapping recordings on back-to-back recordings on the same channel (with padding in both).

But in a forum thread, sub said this:

sub Wrote:Actually, to be clear, it only does multi-record on the ATSC/QAM with the HDHR (ie, via BDA). You don't have to do anything special for this, it's always enabled.

Are you asking able HDHR Prime? No support for multi-record with that yet, but I'll most likely add it in the next release.

So DOES the Prime support this, or is the listed changes not quite right?

Thanks.

I don't think multi-record is working on the Prime. I don't have one here, so wasn't able to check it.

I can confirm that with 3.3.8, my Prime is not multi-recording. It takes 2 tuners to get pre- and post-padding for back-to-back recordings on the same channel. Hopefully, sub will be able to implement multi-recording for the HDHR Prime in the next release as he mentioned above.

I know the Prime can do it via QAM, and NPVR as well, since I posted this thread about this time last year http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...highlight=

As you can see, I had lots of recordings going on with only 1 tuner in use.

So, in your case, I bet the channels you were recording were not in the same frequency, or you are not using QAM.
Sidenote, it really is stupid that they don't allow this on cable-card channels (even ones NOT flagged!), all because the "suits" don't want you to have it.

Yes, I'm sorry I didn't clarify. NPVR has been able to do multi-record on clear QAM frequencies for a LONG time. I used to be able to get that before Comcast encrypted all of the channels. Now, I am forced to use a cable-card to get any channels. And NPVR doesn't (yet) support multi-record for cable-card channels via the Prime. (Whenever someone references using a Prime, I automatically think cable-card.)

Keep in mind, when it does get added for the Prime, it's going to be nowhere near as useful as QAM/ATSC. It'll only help you get padding on back to back recordings on the same channel. The SiliconDust API we talk to isn't capable of delivering multiple cablecard channels on the same frequency.

Yes, I'm aware of that fact (but always good to be clear for others). It will still be extremely useful for me, because I frequently have back-to-back recordings on the same channels. And, with a total of 5 cablecard tuners, that fix will pretty much eliminate all of my tuner "conflicts."

I thought this was a cablelabs issue in not allowing that, not the SiliconDust API not supporting muxing...hmm

Sub, I see in another thread you said you added a lock on the prime tuner in the next version. Any chance this functionality to multi-record on the same tuner for back to back recordings will be the in the next version?

Thank you so much for sharing you're work with us and exceptional support you provide!

Snag, the problem isn't with NPVR, it's with SiliconDust.

Sub stated above:

"The SiliconDust API we talk to isn't capable of delivering multiple cablecard channels on the same frequency. "
