When exiting a show after playing I get a black screen for upwards of a minute or two before I get the recordings menu back again. Also changing from ready Recordings to recurring recordings, etc also takes upwards of a minute or two. I do have a database of 2.7TB of video that is growing daily. Is there anything I can do to speed up the app?
Chris

I was finding things slow in the Recordings area (but no where near as slow as you are & I have a really old PC for my server) & found changing this to false <CheckForRenamedRecordings>false</CheckForRenamedRecordings> in config made quite a big difference.

are you sure you don't have a directX missing warning when you enter settings??

Are you recording to a network drive, or a local drive?

Hi,
I'm having the same problem,
I have a dedicated server with about 4000 recorded shows (localy on the server drives).
Using clients is VERY slow, going from recording to whats new etc - takes about 5-10 seconds, deleting a recording takes about 10-15 seconds. Adding a reccuring recording can take even 5-10 minuets! starting a show can take about 5-10 seconds also stopping takes few seconds to come back to the menu.
I have a 1gb wired network in my house.
Thanks,
Oren.

You shouldn't have any problems on a standard install, where you're using a single machine setup, recording to a local disk.

If you're having performance problems from a client, or a network drive, you can always set <AutoRemoveMissingRecordings>false</AutoRemoveMissingRecordings> and <CheckForRenamedRecordings>false</CheckForRenamedRecordings> in config.xml.

I'm recording to a local drive with about 2TB moved off to a NAS, leaving currently about 700GB on the local drive

I'm pretty sure that 700GB on the local drive wont be causing you any problems. The NAS is probably pretty slow checking for the existence of files though.

This could be especially slow if you watched a recording that was stored on a local drive. Unless you have set your NAS to not allow drives to spin down, NPVR will have to wait for them to spin up and become available after they went to sleep while you were watching the show. This can add several seconds.

Problem appears to be due to wireless network. It took upwards of three to four minutes to show the recordings menu but when I added a network card and disabled the wireless it moved to six seconds. The wireless network is connected at 164Mbit vs 1 gig NIC. Why would the speed difference be that dramatic. I plan on adding a wireless client later on down the road. I know it's my network but still that much? I don't have any issues downloading from the Internet. Any ideas or pointers, thanks folks!
