I am rebuilding my Windows Home server (I use this with 4 Kodi clients and plugins and works great) this week and had two main questions: .

Does the C:\Users\Public\NPVR hold ...ALL.... of my settings? I have an HDHR Prime and an HDHR4 ATSC tuner and it took forever to tune & get all the channels right.

Also for these two tuners does anyone have a link to the exact codecs for ***** Windows 8****** for these to work correctly? My basic understanding is that I need the Cyberlink codecs to "fill in" for the missing Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder? , LAV for audio? I would hate to download a bunch of codecs and garbage (possible malware) I do not need. Thanks in advance.

Yes. More specifically, the npvr.db3 and config.xml.

Sorry, I don't have any link for you, but to add a bit more info...you don't have to use a Cyberlink decoder. I'd try any other MPEG2 decoders you've already got on your machine before downloading extra decoders. Use whatever works well. I'm personally using a MainConcept MPEG2 decoder.

Thanks so much sub for the quick reply! That decoder looks to be $50.00 Sad Ouch! Does this handle all audio and video?

I'm not suggesting buying anything. I was just suggesting that you didn't need to hunt down a Cyberlink decoder, and instead should start by looking at whatever decoders you've already got on your machine. I'm using a MainConcept decoder because it always already on my machine. It was installed with the software that came with my Hauppauge tuners.

Sorry if If my post came across misconstrued that was my fault, I didn't think you were suggesting buying anything. Thanks again for the information.

You could try Hoborg's SAF codec package, it's free Smile

I use: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow/...=directory

Works well.

I'd recommend AC3 Filter for the audio decoder. Some people have had problems with LAV for US TV. I have heard no problems with AC3 Filter, many use it, and it's free. Smile

I think Hoborg's SAF is your best best for video on Win8, unless you want to mess with ffdshow. A number of folks here use that and seem to like it, it has been a pain for me the couple of times I tried it. You'll get some audio decoders with that, so you can skip the AC3 Filter separate install.

Or, just use Win7 and use the MS video decoder. I'm not sure you get anything in Win8 for a backend server.

Thanks for the information folks! I was checking out Hoborg's SAF last night I will try it out. This forum is the best, my hats off to you guys and sub!
This build is replacing my aging Core 2 duo E8400 6 GB RAM 5X 2TB RAID 5 build from 3.5 years ago.
Going with an i5 4440S (65Watt) Low power usage and faster transcoding when it's needed! 16 GB RAM 250 GB SSD + 3X 4TB RAID 5 Using Win 8 Pro CIFS shares (or Enterprise, might use NFS for my Linux clients) Running NextPVR (of course) Plex server, Serviio, I might use it for a "Steam" streaming gaming server......

What's this aging talk? - I'm still using the 2.66 Celeron 1GB XP Pro rig I first installed GBPVR on and it was already 3 years old when by then... Smile

It's still sitting quite happily in the attic with 5 tuners and 3/4 NMT clients - says a lot about sub's NPVR and Martin's mvpmcx2... Smile
