I'm about to tear my hair out. My HTPC installation died and the backup was corrupt so I'm starting over on a client installation from scratch. I have a new Zotac Nano with 4gb of ram using Win7 Professional, 64 bit. When I try to install NPVR it stops on a Nrecord window and says the "process is terminated due to StackOverflow Exception". I've got the three entries in the firewall so that's not the problem. Anybody got an ides.

Did you install all the prerequisites?

Client on a remote machine or on the backend? On a remote client you should have the recording service in turned off, it is a weakness in the installer.

All are there with the exception of windows installer. I tried to install that but got a message saying it couldn't be installed because there wasn't enough storage. I know the hard drive is less than half full but I haven't figured out how to check memory if that's the problem.

This is for a client. How do I turn off the recording service if I can't install NPVR?

Perhaps I'm not understanding your question, Martin. This is for a remote computer in my TV room connected by a cat5 cable to the office server running NPVR. The office server is running just fine. The new computer is a Zotac i3 running Win7 Professional 64 bit. It has a small hard drive but it's more than sufficient since I don't store any media files on it. It has 4 gb of memory, which should be sufficient. The older/smaller Zotac that cratered ran everything just fine although it wasn't as fast as I would have liked.

As I wrote there is not really a client install. Are you sure NextPVR didn't install? I think that happens before the server pieces are turned on.

Here's what I'm running into. I start the NPVR install which almost immediately pauses and a black box appears on the screen concerning nrecord. If you close that box NPVR appears to install and the icon appears in the task box. But, if you click on start services, the little services started box never appears and when you try and start NPVR, nothing happens. I've checked task manager and no NPVR service is there before starting the install. After you try and start NPVR I get a box that says "Unable to start service:System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot start service NPVR Recording service on computer" Then it goes on to say an instance of the service is already running. But, if it is I'm sure not seeing it in Task Manager.I've never had this happen and I'm extremely puzzled. Task manager does show NextPVR.exe *32 and two instances of NPVRServiceControl.exe are running but the program itself does not start.

Why are you trying to start services on a client, they shouldn't start. Reboot and see what happens when you click NextPVR icon.

Don't do that.

Kill all NPVR* instances.
Rerun the install.
Wait for the black box to close on it's own.
