I am somewhat intermittently getting 0KB recordings. The last few Sundays, "Once upon a time" has been giving me 0KB files. Also, just tonight "Survivor" produced a 0KB file, but all other shows recorded fine.

I am using the latest NextPVR (3.4.8) with HDHomerun Prime. I've had this intermittent problem with the prior version of NextPVR as well. I can tune all these channels from HDHomerun setup without a problem. I looked in the logs but didn't find anything obvious. Any assistance would be helpful. Logs are attached. Thank you.

I can't see any obvious problem there. Make sure you've got this HDHR Prime related patch: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post487766

If that doesn't help, it might be worth trying run the HDHR Config utility while one of these zero byte recordings is occurring, to see what it thinks is happening. ie, signal locked and sending data. You can also check the device's web page while recording to see if it thinks the signal is encrypted etc.

Thank you for the feedback Sub. I will install the patch and report back as to whether that fixed the problem.

In terms of what is happening in HDHR Prime, I did look in to this last Sunday, while the Once Upon a Time recording was showing 0 bytes and not increasing in size. NextPVR reported that all three tuners were recording (which it should have been as it was recording 3 shows in parallel) using the tray app. However, when looking at the Prime using HDHR Setup, it showed, two of the tuners locked to the correct channel, but no activity on the 3rd, that should have been locked to the channel recording Once Upon a Time. I was able to manually tune this using the HDHR software with VLC to the channel it should have been tuning and to other channels without a problem.

There is some kind of miscommunication going on between NextPVR and HDHR. Hopefully the patch addresses this.

Sub, unfortunately, this patch did not fix the problem. Last night, NextPVR recorded a 0byte file of 'Survivor'. While the recording was supposed to be going on, NextPVR tray status showed that it was using Tuner 1 of one of the HDHR Primes to record the show. HDHR Setup showed that the tuner was free (I was able to tune to the same channel using the same tuner) and the HDHR log showed that no access was made to it to record the show. There are only certain programs that this happens to. This was happening even before the 3.4.8 upgrade.

Can you post the logs covering the time of that failed recording?

Next time it happens, go to http://192.168.1.48/log.html where 192.168.1.48 is your IP for the prime, and see what it is showing.
Then check http://192.168.1.48/tuners.html?page=tune1 http://192.168.1.48/tuners.html?page=tuner0 http://192.168.1.48/tuners.html?page=tuner2 and see what those show.

If those logs don't show any access, then it looks like it could be a firewall issue.
If those logs do show something, then, usually, the problem is signal level is too low, and NPVR doesn't retry on those type of issues AFAIK.

Spark, thank you for the info. I did look at the HDHR Prime log during the failed recording. It did not show any access. However, I can access the HDHR Prime from the same machine using the HDHR software and it does show in the logs.

I do not understand what firewall settings I need to adjust? This seems to be a problem that does not happen with all recording. Most of them record just fine. But sometimes, and with certain programs, it gives me 0KB files. As I mentioned, this happened with the current version of NextPVR and the prior version.

For the firewall, it it works only sometimes, I guess that isn't the issue.

What is your signal level normally, when you select the channel(s) in question?
If you are around when NPVR fails, and it has a 0 byte file, you can force a record via doing this:
http://<ip addr of prime>:5004/auto/v2?duration=3600 That means, virtual channel 2, with 3600 seconds, or 1 hour time period.
Then your browser will ask where to save the file...
