Seems it might be heading off.

I hadn't see this. Yes, it sounds like you'll be able to use native EIT parsing for Freeview DVB-T in NZ. It might need some minor tweaks to support the NZ huffman tables.

I'm not sure if the EIT data is there already to try and test it.
