Until I get around to working on my PDA based remote I need to buy a new remote control. I'm thinking about getting a MCE 2005 remote but I'm looking for a recommendation.

So far I have been using the remote that came with my PVR-350. Over the last couple of weeks I have been pondering as to whether I should get myself a special one that replaces my 4 remote controls.

When looking in my preferred online store I came across a rather negative feedback for the Logitech Harmony 688, which otherwise looked nice to me. The display seems to be too small for the text, amongst other things. Given the price, I was a bit surprised.

Are there comments or any other recommendations for universal remote controls? I have a TV, stereo, GB-PVR and active subwoofer. Well there is still a normal VCR but that hasn't been used for ages Rolleyes

I've got an old Philips Pronto T-1000, the screen is a good size. I've used it for 4+ years and it works great. I'm getting around to designing and implementing some screens for use with my GBPVR box.

Or my wife seems to like the idea of upgrading to a newer version, perhaps with color. I'm not sure how far I'll get on that, so I'm staying true to the course of making new screens for the current remote.

I'm using an MCE 2004 remote with Girder and a USB-UIRT. With that combo, I can control just about everything I want to. I have the little power button mapped to restart the GB service if needed, the big green button to turn on/off my tv, and the four color buttons to alt-F4, alt-tab, launch GB, change aspect ratio.

Since I got the remote free from a friend, I've got about $70 into the setup.

I've been leaning to the MCE 2004 or MCE 2005 remote. I have a Girder license and a USBUIRT that I originally bought to use with my PDA project but clearly can do double duty.

Thanks for the input

For me the ideal situation would be to use a universal remote and have the VCR function control GB-PVR. Has anyone managed this? Universal remotes have nice features and are cheap to replace.

Also, are there any wireless mouse/keyboard combos that can also receive standard universal remote signals? I know my PVR-150 remote receiver can't.
GB-PVR (usually newest version) (Love it! Direct access to 45-button Hauppauge remote not working)

I used the solution you desicrbed above. I bought a universal remote with a JP1 connector, search Yahoo Groups (Radio Shack, One For All, or some RCA). Using the learning function I decoded the 45 button remote and programmed the U-remote with the codes. Assigend it to a VCR key or AUX key on the remote and your ready to roll.

I now have one remote that conrtols my GBPVR, Receiver, DVD, VCR, Digital video camera, and TV. Actually I have 2. One for me and one for the wife.
But mine has more buttons.

Let me know if you want detailed instructions. I can post them. I orginally found the directions after extensive googleing but cant remember where I found it. I would have to start from scratch.

Please post, I'd like to see what you did and the procedure you used.
