Hi all, just reinstall windows 7 and upgraded to latest NextPVR. Thanks Smile

I usually run a manual EPG update every few days but with 3.4.8 it's crashing NextPVR and it won't open again untill I reboot. I've tried emptying the EPG first but no difference. It's adding a lot of data but there are lots of gaps.

Just re-downloaded and re-installed the installer aswell but it hasn't resolved the issue.

Attatched is my complete log, I didn't clear the EPG first for this one but it does crash when clearing first too.

Thanks.

For whatever reason, you device is not stopping when the application asks it to, so after a short period time the application terminates the process to force a driver cleanup. I hadn't realised this could happen in NextPVR.exe (from where you'd manually initiated the EPG update). Usually it'd be in NDigitalHost.exe, and the application would handle it gracefully.

The good news is, if you just let it do the overnight epg update the normal way, it should complete successfully, and everything will be fine.

I'll make a change to stop this nextpvr.exe termination happening in future. You may get unexpected from your device if it has locked up though. I'll have to think about this...

Just tried re-installing the drivers for the TV card, didn't help though. There have been newer revisions of the card released since this one, I might upgrade to their latest quad tunner at the end of the month and see if that helps.

Think I was on NextPVR 2.6.2 before the reinstall wonder why it's having issues doing whats it's told now. Would prefer it didn't crash silently, at least then I know I've got to reboot and I'm not left with failed recordings.

What happens if the PC is off when the EPG is scheduled to run? IIRC it doesn't run at the next oportunity if the timeslot is missed, that's why I do it manually because usage pattern is sporadic so there's no one time when I can guarantee the PC is on and a tunner is free.

It obviously not ideal to have this problem, but it should be able to clean up from it, and shouldn't lead to any failed recordings.

I can't remember. I can check later. I've just woken up...brain not functioning yet.

You are not alone.

Ever since I have upgraded my AMD x4 PC to Intel Haswell in June 2015, NPVR is not behaving properly anymore.

Windows 7 x64 is a clean install.

It crashes almost everyday during OTA EPG update (manual update or with windows task scheduler -updateepgonly). I did not use the Auto EPG Update because I want to update EPG at different time on different day.

Occasionally, it crashes when it is about to start a recording too. I think so by looking at the time.

Have a lot of failed recordings too due to "Device failed to start". Think some of the tuners has locked up due to whatever reasons.
Although a simple reboot will solve this problem but this is happening everyday.

Previously, NPVR was working perfectly on my retired AMD x4 PC with the same tuners for the past few years.
Have used NPVR 3.4.8 on this AMD x4 PC for about 2 months too, working fine. Using the same way to update EPG too, no crash.

Anyway, I do hope NPVR can pop up some error message to alert users if there is failed recording or device, so we can rectify the problems immediately if we are around.

Thank you.

If you can reproduce the problem, and post your logs, I'll check if it's the same thing happening for you.

Thanks sub, I'm not a morning person either.

Just enabled auto EPG but there are still gaps in the EPG, it filled some in during the last run but some slots are still blank.

There maybe something in what dumbest is saying although it might be a seperate issue. One of the reasons for me re-installing windows was that unless I rebooted shortly before recording started some would fail. Because recordings were succeesful when rebooting shortly before they started I put it down to my old windows install being broken (there were a few other things broken on it unrelated to NextPVR aswell).

Since re-installing I've been rebooting before recordings start untill I've had the chance to setup some test recordings and see if that's still happening. Unfortunatly what dumbest describes sounds exactly what was happening to me, the only difference being I had no problems with manual EPG updates so maybe they are two seperate issues, or it's the same issue but it only started effecting the EPG aswell in more recent version(s) of NextPVR. I was using 2.6.2 before.

Yep, sounds unrelated to me, and would probably be better in a new thread. If you want to post the logs though, I can take a look.

Will see if I can reproduce it, thanks.

For now just want to get the EPG working.
