Hi Folks,
I'm totally new to this and hope some kind soul can help me. I cannot get NPVR set-up to work for me.
I have a new Lenovo 570 running Windows 10. It has a built in AVerMedia USB Polaris Digital Tuner.
When I get to the point where I press "scan" the dialog box shows the program is not responding. What is worse is that that I cannot stop the process and have to restart the computer to get rid of the dialog box.
I've found the log file and hopefully attached it to this post. If no log is attached, can someone explain how to do attachments?
I'm not the sharpest tool in the box and would appreciate somebody giving me gentle guidance.
Thanks in anticipation

You'll need to zip the log file, so that it can be attached. It doesn't accept a ".log" file.

In File Explorer, navigate to the folder Users --> Public --> NPVR ... Right click on the Logs folder and select Send to ... and then Compressed (zipped) folder. Attach this zipped folder to your post.

I'm very new to this and did not understand the way to post logs. I've zipped it so now maybe I can upload it. Thanks again guys!

Simply stated, NextPVR installs software programs that include ... the NextPVR client is the programs that you use to set recordings and to watch recordings ... this is the program that you have been using (without much success).

The second part of NextPVR is a a program that runs all the time in the background ... this is the NextPVR Recording Service ... this is the programs that actually connects to the tuner and records programs. It appears as if the recording service is not running on your machine.

The NextPVR group on the Start menu includes icons to stop and start the Recording Service ... but, I suggest that you reboot to "reset" everything and the Recording Service should start automatically after the reboot. Wait a minute or two after the reboot and then check the Logs folder ... you should see a file called nrecord.log ... this is the log created by the Recording Service.

If the nrecord.log is in the Logs folder, try to do the scan again. Post again if nrecord.log is not in the logs folder.

Hello Graham,
Your information was really valuable. I found in “services” that the recording service was not running and I was unable to start it manually or via the Start NPVR Service. Also no Nrecord log, as you suspected.
I used the cmd prompt to delete the service (with trembling hands).
I then uninstalled NPVR and thoroughly cleaned up the registry and all traces of the program.
Next I rebooted and confirmed no NPVR Services were running.
I reinstalled NPVR and sure enough all looked good. The service was running and I could stop and start it with no problem.
So, with the service running and a big smile on my face, I started the set-up. I selected the Mendip transmitter and hit scan.
Sad to say exactly the same problem. A total freeze that required a reboot.
I see that this time I do have an Nrecord log file as well as the new NPVR log.

I tried clicking on Re Register Filters, just to stop me from kicking the cat. That gave the error message that the call to DllRegisterService failed to start, error code 0x80070005. I have no idea if this is significant.

I'm sorry to bother you again but perhaps you could cast an eye over the two attached logs. They don't mean much to me and the cat is looking decidedly nervous.

I can't see anything in the logs. What happens if you try and do a scan with All Countries and All Regions (instead of selecting UK and Mendip)?

Hello Again Graham,

I have tried a few more things to try and make NPVR work.
First I tried scanning “All Countries and All Region” as you suggested. Sorry to say the same freeze occurred and I had to do a restart as before.
Next I tried importing an .xml file for the Mendip transmitter. (I found this on the forum.)
All went well and I can see many TV and radio channels.
I can see these channels on the epg but there was no programme details. I think it takes a while for this data to be downloaded.
When I click “Live TV” I get a message that the buffer folder (C:\Temp\) is missing. I created this folder manually and hit “Live TV” again. I got the message “Please Wait......” and then it crashed. Another freeze as before.
I've attached log files again. Perhaps you might be able to spot what's causing this problem. I have no idea where to go from here. Sad
Many thank again for giving your time.

Tony
