Sub, I don't have many of them, but those (channels DRM protected) that I do are ones I typically watch using WMC. However, when I, accidentally, forget that a channel is protected (or my wife obliviously tunes to one of those channels on NPVR), I am experiencing NPVR lockups that are not easily cleared- particularly by my wife. I am wondering if it would be possible to display some sort of message/indication that a channel is protected and provide a graceful means of escape when this grievous event occurs?

Thanks

Ideally I'd like to show some sort of nice message when the user tries watching a copy-once/copy-never channel, but I don't have any way to do the development testing for this, so there is currently no message.

Aren't recordings zero byte?

I "fixed" that problem by just deleting those channels from the guide. If she can't see them, she can't select them. Wink

You do this by going to Settings -> Channels. Then click on a channel you don't want to see in the guide and click the delete button in the lower right part of the window.

Martin - I am primarily referring to live TV here.

Harry - Yeah, I could do that, but, I use NPVR as my primary TV viewing app and like it's guide much better than WMC. It is nice to have a guide that shows everything, even the protected channels. In this case, if my wife or I see the listing of a show on a protected channel that we would want to watch, and it is marked as such somehow, at least then we know to reboot PC into W7 to watch on WMC instead. I know this is parochial, but i am trying to keep things easy for the family.

Couldn't you setup multiple channel groups? Label one "Unavailable" and put the channels in there. So, most of the time, you use your regular group. If you want to see what's on the protected channels, switch to the Unavailable group.

Elihu - yes, a good idea, but, that doesn't prevent channel selection of such a channel with an up/down keystroke (or remote press) no matter what group is being shown - in which case, npvr would still hang in that case. Recovery from this hanging is the second part of my wish request - to gracefully recover from that hang, which currently it doesn't do. My goal is to make this family proof!

My cable company just made the switch and I've since bought two HDHR Prims, what do you need to development test Sub? I'd be willing to assist in whatever way I can...

Sub, if it helps any, the web interface for the HD HomeRun Prime does now show a DRM icon for protected channels. I don't know if Silicon Dust has an API for that flag though.
