Was watching a show, audio just suddenly dropped out. Not sure what happened, but I've lost audio on all files now playing through NPVR. Windows sounds work fine, and the same video I was watching I was able to play fine with another media player, but all video files now suddenly have no sound when played through NPVR, whether external video files or files recorded with NPVR. Logs attached, not sure what to do or try next to fix this.

Maybe right click the speaker in the Windows tray, and check if you've some how muted NextPVR in the system mixer. If it's not that, then it'll be somewhere in the audio decoders or audio renderer you're using.

NextPVR uses the audio decoders specified in Settings --> Decoders to play recordings made with NextPVR. This decoder may be different from the "default" decoder used by, for example, Windows Media Player, to play the same file. It may be that the settings for the audio decoder specified in NestPVR Settings --> Decoders are stuffed. Press the ellipsis (...) beside the decoder name in Settings to check audio decoder settings. Plus, try setting audio renderer in Settings --> Decoders to Default (if it ain't that already).

Long story short, that did the trick. Had to fiddle around with the mixer to show more options (it was only showing "speakers" and "system sounds" both of which were NOT muted and at 100%). After messing around with it, it now shows a "Name Not Available" option, which had somehow muted itself. Unmuted, now I have sound again. Still odd that it muted itself, AND that it says "Name Not Available" makes me leery of this glitch happening again. This is a Windows 7 machine BTW, if it matters.

Thanks for the help, I'll keep an eye (ear?) out for it, and if it happens again I'll follow-up.

Yeah I tried tinkering with that already (first thing I did, actually since the Windows sounds all worked fine) before I discovered the volume control for "Name Not Available" that muted itself, as I just posted. Still a strange glitch that may rear its ugly head again down the road.

I'm think it didn't mute itself, but rather was a case of bumping windows key combination to mute the app in the mixer (or a wireless keyboard that generated this key combination by iself).

Glad you got it sorted though.

That's just it, I usually use a remote for this system and the remote was sitting on the table as I was just watching a show, nothing was touched at all, the audio just dropped out as I was watching the video. Really, really strange and hopefully it doesn't happen again.

Do you have a wireless keyboard? We've certainly seen these generate phantom keypresses in the past. You might have just got unlucky.

I do, but I usually keep it off to save the battery.
