Hi Sub,

I would like to see GBPVR have more options for disk usage. Seeing how everything (seems) to be stored in an mdb file, would it be that hard to point to a different disk for different files?

Two examples:

1) Two or more storage locations. GBPVR is told to save the next recording to which ever has more free space.

2) Multiple storage locations with size allocations. Can either be based on option 1, or use disk 1 until it is at its quota, then use disk 2 until it is at its quota, etc. This doesn't need to be perfect - Ie, if you set location 1 to 40 gb and you start a 3 hour recording, it can still all go to location 1 (it need not break the recording into multiple segments). But the next recording should then go to location 2, etc.

With the increase in use of networked attached storage and external disks, anything that gives GBPVR more flexibility to use multiple locations (without the need for archiving) would be a real asset.

Thoughts?

The Video Archive plug-in will do this. You can specify multiple video storage paths and an option for how archiving is done (either to the drive with the most space or in sequenatial order through the list). If you want, you can set the archvie interval to as low as one day, in which case each night your videos will be moved from your recordings disk to an archive disk. During this process all of the information related to the recording wil be copied into the archive database.

Hi Jeff,

That looks nice, but I just want the basic functionality of the recordings or xrecording screen with the disk issue addressed. I don't want to have to go to a specialized plug-in to view/sort/find my recordings.

I'm not a great programmer, but I don't think that it would be that hard to put in a disk space check into the code, and then have the mdb file simply reflect the appropriate storage location.

It should be transparent to the user...

The video archive plug-in is designed to be used in place of the recordings and video library commands. It provides a supset of all the functions they provide with the exception that it does not provide a way to do manual scheduling. That said, you are right that once a file is archived you can no longer use the built-in recordings command to display the show information because it is no longer in the GBPVR database. There is a published API for the archive plug-in too however so things like XRecord could be adapted (if Jorm decides to) to be able to read show information from the archive.
