Hi, I'm a new member and have just installed NextPVR for the first time and am trying to set it up. I've searched the wiki and the forum and I'm confused as to how to organise the channels. Hopefully somebody can point me in the right direction as to my next step.

I have 2 dual-tuners, so 4 devices. I've scanned and found all channels on all 4 devices.

From the sticky at the top of this sub-forum, I'm now wanting to do this:

"Here you can merge channels that are the same across multiple tuners (even of different types), map your channels to your EPG data source (critical), and change the logical channel number assigned to each channel." but I'm not sure what I'm doing.

In my channels list, as #1, I've got 4 instances of 7HD and 4 instances of ONE (which should actually be Channel 1, 7HD is channel 70). As #2, I've got 4 instances of 7flix and four instances of ABC (which is our Channel 2). The 7 channels should be number 70(7HD), 7 or 71 for channel seven etc. I've got at #3 7Perth (channel 7 or 71) and it says there are 4 sources, and at #4 I've got another listing of 7Perth with 4 sources.....

If I open "bulk map", I'm offered the opportunity to merge channels with same name. It seems that that is just merging them for the purposes of the EPG? How does this affect selecting channels to watch or record from?

Could somebody point me in the right direction for sorting this out, so that I end up with just one channel for each station with the number I know it by, eg I can get channel 7 by using #7? If I merge the channels, will the tuners still have the channels? Do I need to keep the multiple sources or I'll be disabling tuners, or???

Thanks for any help.

What you'd typically do with multiple tuners is scan on only one tuner, then when you try to go into the second one it'll say "This capture source hasnt been setup yet, but you have other capture sources that have been. Would you like to copy the configuration and channel mappings from another capture source? Click 'No' if you want to configure this capture source differently.". You want to click yes to this. Do it for each of the tuners. At the end of this you'd have one set of channels available from four tuners.

You'd obviously clicked 'No' to that question and setup each capture source separately. The easy fix is go to the Settings->Devices screen, on three of the tuners - right click, and delete the device. Ok out of the Settings screen, then go back into your Settings->Devices screen. Your three tuners should have been re-added. Double click each of them, selecting the 'Yes' option to copy the configuration from the other tuners.

I think all your questions related to this, so hopefully that covers it for you.

Thanks for the reply.

No, I didn't, I clicked "yes" and it copied the findings from the first tuner to the others.

Didn't you say you ended up with four copies of each channel though? Clicking yes doesn't create channels, it just adds a device mapping to the existing channel. Clicking no will end up creating a channel for each tuner.

I went into devices, I setup each tuner. Only scanned the first one, and said "yes" to whether I just wanted to copy to the others.

When I select "Channels", I have a long list with what I described in the first post. 7 items with #1, source DVB-T, etc. #3 doesn't have DVB-T under source, but it says "4 sources" at the end of the line.....

Isn't each tuner supposed to have channels? After it copied over, it has a number under "channels" in the "devices" view.....

EDIT: I deleted everything and started again. I've now got a neater list with "4 sources" next to everything. I still have some multiple entries and need to give the channels their "proper" numbers. I presume I do that by amending the number in "details"? I'll give that a go, anyway. Thanks for the help, sub

If you want to zip and attach your npvr.db3 file, I'll take a close look at what you're trying to describe - it's not entirely clear. (and I'll try the step of removing the 3 tuners and letting it copy the config)

I am sorry, my last reply wasn't that helpful.

When I set it up, I copied from the first tuner. What I had done after that and had forgotten/not realised had affected things was to change the location to "all regions" and rescan (because SBS hadn't been picked up, and I found online that that's how to pick up those channels). So, although I had not answered "no" to the "do you want to set up each separately?" question, I had in fact gone on to set up each separately by rescanning. I hadn't realised that that rescanning had added again to the channel list.

I've started again, I bit the bullet and merged the channels with the same name (for some reason we do have some of the same channel on different frequencies, I can always start again if it was a mistake to have merged them) and I've put all the proper numbers in. I'm just scanning the EPG and hopefully all will be well from here on in.

Sorry to have messed you about, sub, and thanks for the assistance.

Yeah, I'm wondering if you're in region that happens to be able to see stations from multiple transmitters (on different frequencies). Best cause of action in this case is to delete one set of the duplicate channels. There is no point in merging them etc.
