EPG Update via OTA aborts

I am trying to get OTA EPG updates.
when I run it via settings->channels->Update EPG, it runs but I get an abort error in the NPVR log and in windows app event log. see attached log files and windows event logs. When this happens windows reports (via dialog box) "NextPVR has stopped working" and then aborts the settings app.
BTW the NPVR client is NOT running.

I have read the FAQs. I tried w & wo "update during live TV". the update during live TV seems to not crash.

I have 3 Hauppage tuners (1 single and 1 dual).

I am running NPVR 3.7.7 on Windows 10.

When I do an "Update EPG" I do get most of the channels, but the ones missing are not consistent.
I also get part of the EPG flushed too quickly resulting "no data" for many channels.

So basically the OTA EPG works, but crashes.

OTA EPG is notoriously unreliable. You will be lucky if you get the next 6 hours, much less the next 24 hours of Guide data from your local TV station. If you are in the US then I suggest you subscribe to Schedule Direct for EPG data. There are other sources of EPG data (TVGuide, zap2it) but theses sources are known to change there format once or twice per year resulting in the current version of the software grabber to fail. At which point you are at the mercy of the developer to find the changes and fix there software (wack a mole time).

The real concerning item is the crash. I can understand the data being unreliable from the OTA data stream provider, but the NPVR EPG updater should not crash.

Yep, it shouldn't crash. There may be something usual in your provider's live stream. If you want to capture a 1 minute full ts, using eval version of TS capture from http://www.tscapture.com, I can try running it up in the debugger here.

do you want 1 min of TS log for each channel? I have 45+ channels. TScapture seems to want to do it on a channel or freq basis.
I have not been able to pin point it down to a specific channel/freq. seems to crash at the end of all scans, but not sure.

to help narrow down the TS stream. what order does the EPG update happen? is it by freq or by channel? the logs have the exception occurring after channel 42 IONlife. based on the logs, I don't think it is the IONlife channel but what ever happens after that. so knowing what order the EPG is updated relative to the logs will help me know which TS capture to upload. for my region, IONlife is towards the end of the list of channels. Neither the freq nor the channel numbers are in order.

I see the same issue with 3.7.7 and Windows 10 except I have QAM cable channels and use Schedules Direct. As long as the NPVR "service" is running I get the same error message when attempting to update the EPG.

For me a workaround is to go to the start menu (All Apps), navigate to the NPVR start menu folder, and click on "Stop NPVR Service". Then click on the "NextPVR" icon in the NPVR start menu folder. After the NextPVR window shows up right click in the window and select "Settings" and navigate to the channels tab and update the EPG. This seems to work every time for me without crashing. After the EPG update is complete then I start the NPVR service again.

That patch fixed my issue. I thought I had all the latest patches in place but I missed that one. Thanks!
