Hello. I would like to get a better understanding of how NextEnd operates. I've attached the NextEnd and NextEnd-Monitor logs for examination. Based on the logs, I can't make sense of what NextEnd is trying to do. Basically, I'm trying to insure that if a NASCAR race runs past its end time, I'd like NextPVR to keep recording until the race ends plus delay the start of later recordings on that channel for the amount of time the race ran past the scheduled end time.

Is NextEnd operating correctly? Am I invoking NextEnd correctly?

I appreciate your time.

Today's race looks ok and yu are okay There were some dealy problems with last week's NASCAR events and how it was reported as online and I fixed the backend and do have another update that will fix it but I didn't release it since it wasn't a problem. For tonight since NBC follows NASCAR with NFL I don't try and extend it because it is also sports.

OK, Martin, thank you.

Yeah, last week was a bust with moving the race to another day. I just knew the online DB wouldn't get the schedule change in time.

For today, I've set NextPVR to record the hour immediately following the race as sort of a test. Just trying to characterize what happens and what the logs reveal.

Let's let today's events play out and then check the results.

I don't think that Martin's response addressed the 2nd part of your desire ("delay the start of later recordings"). NextEnd doesn't ever delay the start time of a following recording but will extend the end time recording(s). It does this because depending upon how late something ran and what follows it, broadcasters sometimes just push back the schedule, but other times they will drop an entire show (to get later shows back on schedule), etc. NextEnd is based upon the philosophy that it is better to err on the side of caution and record extra since you can always skip or cut the parts that don't apply.

Now, if you use the "--resume" option it will also set a resume point at the original start time plus the amount of time that the previous sports event ran over. (It might also include the --postgame time, but I don't think so.) So, if you go to play one of those recordings and see that it already has the green bar on the left side, then try using the Resume option, and you should start playing at "about" the right point in the recording if it was indeed delayed by the broadcaster.

Hmmmm....

Good info. Let's see if I got it right.

If my live program runs 45 minutes past its scheduled end time, NextPVR will have been told to keep recording for those 45 minutes. All scheduled recordings on that channel following the live show will start recording at their scheduled start time but will also have their post-padding changed to 45 minutes. It doesn't matter if shows following the live were scheduled to start immediately after the live show or three hours later.

For example, this is a schedule on a single channel:
Live show 2:00pm to 6:00pm
Drama show 8:00pm to 9:00pm
Drama show 10:00pm to 11:00pm

Now, the live show runs 45 minutes long.
New schedule:
Live show 2:00pm to 6:45pm
Drama show 8:00pm to 9:45pm
Drama show 10:00pm to 11:45pm

Using the --resume option will mark the 45-minute point into each of the drama shows.

Is this correct?

Kind of. If the game goes 45 minutes long all shows will actually be extended by 60 minutes to allow for the post game amount but the resume point will be 45 minutes.

Martin will correct me if I'm wrong here. :-) And this is a minor point which shouldn't have much of a real-use impact, but just to clarify this explanation for any future readers...

I'm pretty sure that I recall Martin saying he had some problem when having NextEnd just change the post-padding for a recording so instead it changes the actual end time for the program. At this point, I've got plenty of tuners, so conflicts aren't a problem for me. Thus, I'm not sure what NextEnd/NextPVR will do if extending the end time would result in an actual tuner conflict. (i.e. something on a different channel is already scheduled to use that tuner and there aren't any other tuners available)
