See 10:09:44.286 [ERROR][1] Unexpected socket exception calling StartStream(): System.Net.Sockets.SocketException (0x80004005): An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

(thread moved because it doesn't to appear to be anything to do with Kodi)

If you record those channels, do you get a file created?

Yes, if I record the channels a file is created, but it is zero length.

Now NextPVR recoring is broken. If I attempt to "Cancel" the recording, then there is an unhandled exception (as follows). NextPVR Recordings shows the program on the channel that doesn't display in both the "What's New" and "Pending Recordings" lists. I tried to record programs from other channels the do display and no recording file is created and I can't Cancel these recording either (and they are shown in the "Pending Recorings" list.

There is nothing in the NextPVR NPVR log (attached) about the following exception.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Yes, the recording service was not running. Restarting it made it everything work as expected. Thanks for the tip.

Yes, if I record the channels that do not display a file is created, but it is zero length.

Since you're using a cablecard device, my guess is either that channel is now encrypted (so no longer usable in anything other than MediaCenter), or the channel number has changed (causing the Ceton to tune to a non-existant channel number, and ultimately deliver no data).

All channels are encrypted - have been for a few years. I thought that the Cablecard took care of the unencrypting. Some channels have DRM and I can't view those channels, but the two that I can't view now don't have DRM.

According to the HDHomerun configuration program, the channel numbers haven't changed.

I am able to view the same channels that don't display in NextPVR using SiliconDust's View application.

I complained to COMCAST about not being able to tune the channels and they did some remote tests and concluded they needed to send a technician out to investigate. I'm not sure they know what they are doing, but I thought I would give then a chance. They said maybe the signal wasn't strong enough or I may need new Cablecards.

Terminology can vary depending on what aspects of the setup you're focusing on. From NextPVR's perspective, it can receive copy-freely content unencrypted. For copy-once, copy-never, it's encrypted between the device and client (needing certs etc). What I was saying is they could have moved from 'copy-freely' to 'copy-once' or 'copy-never'.

You can always run up the HDHomeRun Config utility to see what it says while NextPVR is trying to watch/record the channel. ie, it should tell you info like if it's locked to a signal, and delivering data etc. You can compare what you get in that utility when trying the same channel in NextPVR vs View.

This problem is still happening for me. COMCAST sent a technician and all he did was measure the signal strength and said it was OK. I asked SiliconDust about it and they asked "Have you reported this problem to NPVR?"

In 2012 "imilne" posted a nearly identical stack trace on this forum for the same exception: Skip Problem #177.

The channels are copy-freely and they are not encrypted. "HDHomeRun Config GUI" shows that it is streaming the channels to the target machine when NextPVR does not play them and I can view the channels with VLC (by clicking on the "View" command button in "HDHomeRun Config GUI").

It's a mystery to me.
