Hello. wondering if anyone can offer a suggestion? I have a win 10 pc setup with Nextpvr on Ethernet and it appears to work as expected provided I am at the controls in front of the pc. However if I connect to the PC by LAN from elsewhere in the house NextPVR plays the screens at port 8866 for 5 minutes or a little less and then puts the pc to sleep. It will even put the pc to sleep if I start streaming a recording to myself over the lan. If I send it a WOL magic packet it comes back to life and I can get it going again (but not elegantly) for a few minutes until it goes to sleep again.

Yes of course I have the sleep setting in Power set for 5 minutes. However in my thinking the PC is not idle in this case and so should stay powered on.

Thanks for any ideas.

NextPVR never instructs windows to put the PC to sleep. This is a windows problem, not a NextPVR problem. Sometimes windows doesn't realise that it is being used to stream media and goes to sleep anyway.
You can try this but I am not 100% sure if this only applies when steaming content via windows media player

Go to control pane --> Power settings --> Change advanced power settings --> Under Multimedia settings --> When Sharing media --> for both On Battery and Plugged In, change the value to 'Prevent idling to sleep' and click on apply button and OK.

There are some free 3rd party power management apps that will keep a PC awake if CPU load or network traffic > x%

check out the registry patch listed here:

same patch for windows 7, 8 & 10 - add the reg key, reboot, then set number to whatever you want.

You don't explain what client you are using, but that sounds like one of the web clients or maybe a browser. Yes NextPVR will let the PC sleep in the GUI mode after 5 minute but I consider that a good thing. I am not srure if NextPVR keeps the client awake will streaming recordings, I would hope so, but it certainly does in live tv as it is recording.

I was using a browser as the client. Thanks for the ideas.

I've added some logic for the next release to make sure the machine doesn't go to sleep while streaming to a browser.

Cool!!! I typically keep my NPVR host set to sleep at 10 mins. I have noticed this too, when streaming to the Web GUI on another PC ...

Here is a thought. Do the various media players interact to the extent they have sleep timers? For example I always think of what my windows sleep timer is set to but until someone mentioned had not thought to investigate if Kodi or FreeTelly have a sleep timer. Of course I found that they do. If you leave one running but not in use it may be the source of the surprise sleeping?

I have since turned off their sleep settings to see how that effects things.

Just for clarification, by default, Windows has the only sleep timer on your system. If Windows detects that there is no activity on the system, it should put the PC to sleep at the interval defined in the power settings.

An application, such as NPVR for example, can set a wake timer to bring windows out of standby to record a scheduled show. It is also up to the application software to signal activity to Windows to prevent sleeping, if it is not obvious to the OS. I think sub just addressed this in his comments regarding the next release :-D

So on Kodi 16 go to System-Settings>System>Power saving. In Advanced mode or higher it shows >Put display to sleep timer and also shows >Shutdown function timer. Are these not different from Windows timers? or maybe I should post this Q in the Kodi forum?
