Did a clean install of Win 10 Creators update. Installed NPVR. When I try to watch live TV it plays audio but no video and says Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Recorder has MPEG2 support disabled.

I installed this MPEG2 Video Extension (https://www.microsoft.com/en-nz/store/p/...pmh4?rtc=1) from the MS webstore. I went to Settings / Decoders in NPVR and set Video Decoders / MPEG2 Video to Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Recorder from Disabled. I still get audio but no video. Would prefer to just get this to work instead of installing LAV filters or whatever. Any ideas maybe please ?

I'm in NZ using dvb-s with a Hauppauge pci-e card.

Not sure if any logs would help ?

I'm not sure if installing that gets the decoder enabled for MPEG2 or not. I personally got it enabled installing the Microsoft DVD Player app from the app store.

I think MPEG2 video extension is 64-bit, would that affect it working with NPVR ?

NextPVR will only use a 32 bit decoder. If you're seeing it listed though, then there is a 32 bit decoder installed on your machine (but it may only have H.264 video enabled, and not MPEG2).

Well if I search for mpeg2 extensions on my PC I get this...

and this

...for 64 and 32-bit. And in NPVR the codecs are...

...if any of that helps. Any idea if those files are the ones required and if so how to actually use them ?

No, I've got no idea what any of those files are.

If you're getting that warning though, it means that the MPEG2 support isn't available in this decoder (or at least not to 3rd party apps like NextPVR). As mentioned, the Microsoft DVD Player app should enable the MPEG2 support in the decoder.

My testing shows that the MPEG2 Extension found in the windows store only works with Win10 UWP apps. Therefore the HDHomeRun App and the Movies & TV App. IMHO the MPEG2 Extension is there to support HDHomeRun and DRM . Anything else is a bonus. And by the way, the last time I tested, the MPEG2 Extension totally messed up WMP playing anything encoded with MPEG2.

Only way NextPVR would be able to use the MPEG2 Extension is if Sub wrote a UWP NextPVR client.

On a related note and seeing as I never did get round to getting DVD player to work.....is it possible to use LAV filter thingies instead. Am asking as I apparently already have them on my PC and am wondering if anyone knows exactly which file I should point the NextPVR Video Decoder too ?

Yes, with the 4.0.4 release you should be able to use the "LAV Audio Decoder" and "LAV Video Decoder".
