Is there a flag I can set to say order by device type? Or do I need to create a group of channels, and get a group id posted in the url to restrict to a device type (ie a colossus)?

There is no flag that would group that way, mainly because a channel can be provided by multiple device types. For example, you might get BBC1 from three sources - DVB-T, DVB-S and Colossus (from set top box).
