Verizon charges are getting out of hand with my bill reaching nearly $200/mo. Granted I have excellent service but I am considering moving to Optimum and saving at least $60/mo.

I have two burning questions regarding using cable cards with Optimum. My current setup with Verizon works very well with mostly Fox channels NOT marked as "copy-freely." I use a set top box for those. I know that HDHomeRun will return digital rights management(DRM) status by channel when asked to "Detect Channels." Hauppauge DCR-3250 does not. HDHomeRun also returns the encoding by channel as either MPEG2 or h.264. Again, DCR-3250 does not.

My Optimum service area for the channel lineup I believe is identified as Dutchess County in the Mid Hudson Region.

Questions:

1) Does anyone in forum-land know how Optimum stacks up as far as "copy-freely" channels?

2) Can anyone offer a list of the channel lineup as reported by HDHomeRun that shows encoding?

I would greatly appreciate if some one in this Optimum service area would upload the <HDHomeRunDeviceIP>/Lineup.xml file created by detecting channels. That file will have all the information I need to help me decide on moving to Optimum.

Many thanks.

Have you tried dealing with Verizon? Not directly related to Optimum per se, but I have a similar situation between Verizon and Comcast. With the best offer I can find in hand from Comcast, I have been successful calling and negotiating with Verizon to get much better pricing from them using the Comcast offer as leverage.

Thanks for the tip, 2leftfeet. I'll ask my negotiating team leader(my wife) to give them a call. She's good at it!

But, I still would like to get that xml file I referred to in OP. Am I posting in the right place for relevant listeners?

Since getting a lineup listing from a Prime isn't NextPVR specific, you might have better luck if you posted in a SiliconDust forum (wider audience).
