being the geeky gadget addict that I am, I want to start messing with some OTA Digital TV with NPVR.

The below device caught my eye

Will this work with NPVR?

My guess is "Yes", but I just want to be sure before I go and order it

Maybe you should go bigger: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DZS...bw_c_x_3_w

Assuming you're not using a laptop.

The advantage of PCI cards is that not only are they a neater installation, but you avoid any of the potential problems with USB tuners not waking up properly upon wake from standby. Although, perhaps that's not an issue with mother boards more recent that my 8 years old socket 775 one..

I thought about that card, but, not sure if the 4 tuners is really something I need

I am still unsure if the channels I will get OTA would be worthy of 4 tuners recording things.

Luckily Amazon has a great return policy. So, I am going to try my luck with the USB tuner and see where it takes me

Make sure you turn off the 'let windows put this to sleep to save power' mode. USB tuners do not wake up well sometimes. The Quad tuner board is great, I own one but it does need a fast processor and bus to prevent choppy recordings. Remember you can record more than one show on a channel if it has sub channels. Typically CW is a sub to CBS since they own them.

Thanks for the tip.

When you say that "it does need a fast processor and BUS speed", I am wondering if my PC can run this card smoothly (I am starting to think I may get one instead of the USB tuner).

I have a Dell XPS 8300
i5-2300
2.80GHz
16 GB RAM
500GB SSD

Should the above be enough to run that card smoothly ?

Another thing that confused me about your post (so sorry for all of the questions) Smile

You are stating I can record sub channels simultaneously ?

I thought that because the USB has only 2 tuners, i can only record 2 shows at one. no matter what

Welcome to the delights of NPVR Wink you can record all shows broadcast on the same transponder (mux, frequency, sub channel or whatever it's called where you live)
