Currently my remote setup mostly works but it is a kluge. I have both a eHome transceiver and a Hauppauge receiver using WinTVIR.exe running at the same time. If disable one or the other I loose some button functionality. I also have an iMon receiver but I've disabled that after much frustration. I'm also running xbmccustomregis GSB script from when I was planning to run everything from Kodi (I like the Nextpvr interface better and had a few issues with Kodi). One thing I really like from that script is that it effectively gives me a discrete on for my computer (I have a macro that runs on my remote that turns on the computer if it is off but doesn't turn it off if it is on). Discrete on is important to me and don't want to lose it. My remote is an X-Sight learning remote and I run JP1 RM so I have access to a database of different remote codes. I currently have a Windows Media Center device installed on it which I use to control Nextpvr.
The main thing I'm missing is a way to get to the hidden menu on the TV Guide. The Info button doesn't work for this. I tried installing IRSS following the sandbox wiki but my Hauppauge digital tuners (1609) don't have a Channel Changer option listed in devices (I see a Channel Changer option for an analog tuner) so I can't figure out how to tell NexttPVR to use IRSS.
Is IRSS the best (and easiest - I'm already getting in over my head) tool to use? The wiki is old and there may have been advances. If so, how I tell Nextpvr to use it? Is there an updated guide on using it with NextPVR?
I'm assuming I should switch everything to the MCE eHome transceiver unless there is some advantage to using the Hauppauge receiver also.
Thanks

Yes I did, and I'm considering it. I could download a Hauppauge remote configuration file for my X-Sight remote so it will emulate that remote. I'm assuming this is for the Hauppauge remotes that use the IR receiver that plugs into the back of my tuner card (vs the eHome transceiver), correct?
I thought I 'd get some input before I embark in a certain direction. I hate it when I start down a path only to find out I should have taken a different one.

The ir.exe program sends keystrokes to the window on-screen that has the focus. The irremote.ini file maps the remote buttons to the keystrokes that are sent.

I have used ir.exe with Hapuppauge remotes and IR receivers for years and it does exactly what I need. The only downside is that it needs NextPVR to have the focus. Not a problem on a machine that is dedicated to NextPVR.

I picked up a Harmony 650 remote on sale ($35?) and love it. No more pile of remotes required. I configured it to turn the TV and sound bar on/off, control the volume of the sound bar, and take care of all the commands for NPVR via an HP Windows Media Player receiver on the HTPC. I just press the "Watch TV" button and away we go. Smile

So all I need to do is set my remote up to emulate a Hauppauge remote and everything should work? Is there anything I need to do to tell NextPVR that I want to use the Hauppauge remote? Sounds pretty easy.
Thanks

The X-Sight remote is similar. There is a bit of a learning curve for using the JP1 program. But I only need to push one button to watch TV, turn everything off, etc. I've got it programed for all of my other devices. I just need to figure out the details of the best way to use it with Nextpvr.

I was using the harmony 600 series for 4 years. But every year the most used buttons stop working and had to buy a new Harmony. I use the IR receiver from Hauppauge and purchased a cheap remote GE 33709 4-Device. My setup is a computer, Sound Bar, and a Vizio TV. The GE allows you to dedicate volume control to the sound bar. It also supports the hauppauge IR. Purchased the GE device off Ebay for $5 and I like it much better than the harmony. Earlier version of the harmony you had more control for special sequences. But the latest software version has less flexibility. One issue if you (main) power off button, my computer would go to sleep even during an active recording. Really messes things up. Contacted Logic Tech and they said you cannot modify the behavior.
So far so good with the GE device.

I had no problem disabling the power button so that it doesn't turn the computer on or off with my Harmony 650. IIRC, it wasn't obvious, but it didn't take long to figure it out.

You can disable the power button for the device, but if your computer is sleeping at the time, then the watch TV button does not wake up the computer. On the older software you could control when the computer went to sleep and when it wakes up! The new software is less flexible. Only way I could fix the button issue was take the device apart and clean the contacts. Works for about 2 weeks then fails again. Seems to be a common issue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMaRAAzrPA4
