Reduced Channel

Hi,

I have version 4.1.0 of Next PVR installed on a relatively fresh install of Windows 10 Pro Version 1703. Tuner card is a HVR-2250 connected to an Antenna. Channels were loaded by running a channel scan on 1 of the ATSC tuners, then exporting and importing to the other. EPG is using Schedules Direct.

I'm getting a 'Reduced Channel' message when changing channels or using the 'Now Playing' list when both of the 2250's ATSC tuners are in use. The 'Now Playing' list only shows 14 of my 69 channels. It looks like it is showing 1 sub channel from each (or most) of the channels that I receive. I understand from other posts this is because those are the channels that it thinks it can tune too based on the state of the tuner. Why does it think I can tune to those 14 channels and not the other 54 when both tuners show as busy in the Status?

When I hit 'F1' to go to the guide with Live TV playing it shows me the full list of channels and lets me tune to any of them. There are posts about this going back at least 2 years so presumably it is intended behavior but to a newbie it sure seems like a bug. Is there a way for me to get the channel +/- and 'Now Playing' lists to show the full list instead of reduced set of channels? Whatever logic is populating that list doesn't seem to take into account that when you change the channel you are going to 'free' up the current live tv tuner.

Thanks

It's only supposed to do this when a tuner is in use for a recording, since live tv can only use the limited set of channels on the same frequency (since it can't switch live tv to another channel, since the tuner is locked to that frequency). This is less likely to happen with a dual tuner device (assuming you setup channels on both). After a reboot, are you able to reproduce it?

It is consistently reproducible. In fact I reinstalled Windows from scratch on a clean hard drive and I can still reproduce it every time. Attached are a couple of screen shots and corresponding logs. Note that whether the status menu indicated the live/tv and recording were happening on the same tuner or seperate tuners when I tried to change channels my Channel List was reduced from 14 from 49. The third screen shot shows I get the full channel list if I cancelled the recording.

Also, I don't understand how the multiple channels on the same frequency works but the list of available channels I'm getting when it shows the reduced list seems suspicious. It seems odd that its showing just subchannels and only a subset of them for a particular main channel.

When you setup the second tuner on your HVR2250, did you accept it's offer to copy the channels from the first tuner?

Can you zip and attach those screenshots?

I set up the 2250 by running a channel scan on the first tuner then exporting the channels and importing them on the 2nd tuner. I didn't notice a prompt or anything to automatically copy them.

Screenshot zip attached. I had to crop them to stay under the size limit for an attachment

Can you possibly try setting up you channels again to see if it makes a difference? If you need to, backup your npvr.db3 file, so you can get back to your original channels later. Otherwise, delete all the channels, setup the first tuner, then double click the second tuner, and you should get this prompt to copy the channels. Accept that offer. Then see if you can reproduce the issue.

It is still doing it. I tried uninstalling NPVR and reinstalling it. It looked like it retained the settings.

When I tried to clear out the channels I didn't know what I was doing so I deleted the tuner from the devices list instead of the channels. Once I realized my mistake I deleted the channels and the restarted and it found the tuner again.

I set up the first tuner and copied the channels to the second one per your directions. At first it seemed to work. Strangely, the tuners were all listed twice in the Status dialog. I the restarted NPVR and it was back to showing the reduced channel list.

It's not clear why it's doing this for you. I might need to post your a new build of a couple of components to collect some more logging. I don't have time to do that today.

I took the machine apart, I'm going to rebuild it with different components. It will probably be a while before I can try but If I can still reproduce it after I'll bump this thread.
