Channel Scan Issue - Australia

I am looking for some help on why ABC Channels in Melbourne, Australia are not being picked up correctly in Channel Scan. On clean install of NPVR they are showing as unrecognised. The same system / Hauppage quad tuner scans them correctly through WinTV.

With these 'Unknowns' it scans the OTA Guide correctly, but when I start changing the names back to the correct ones the Guide scanning seems to break - reducing to current program only (this is a bit flakey so I am not sure exactly which change causes it). I have included sample of the XML from one of the Unknown channels

Is this an issue with what ABC is broadcasting, or is there a lookup library somewhere that manages it? Not sure where to look. The OTA Guide is pretty good here so keen to get this to a clean and complete install.

I have just checked this on a clean image / install of NPVR and taken the logs from that.

These symptoms are the same as I have seen when signal reception quality is borderline. My experience has been that the scan will not work properly if the reception is a bit dodgy even though recording and Live TV are okay with the same signal.

My suggestion would be to temporarily remove all (or as many as possible) splitters and extension coax cables and redo the scan. You should be okay to put the splitters and wotnot back for normal use.

My thoughts were along the lines of Graham. What happens if you try recording these Unknown channels - do they play smoothly, or are they breaking up (like bad reception)?

Same problem here. In answer to the other questions, reception on all channels, including all of the ABC ones, which come up as unknown, is perfect - albeit without any EPG content. I am running the connection through a splitter, and the TV on the other side of the connection gets all of the abc channel details, and the associated EPG content. Until recently, everything was working fine, same TBS 6281 dvb-t2 capture card, ASUS Xonar DG audio card, and NVIDIA GeForce GT710 video card. I will remove the splitter (when I can move the furniture!) and provide an update, but if anyone has any other suggestions, I'd be keen to hear them.

Update - I've removed the splitter (and also updated to the latest version of NPVR) with the same result. The ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) channels (both TV and Radio) are still detected as unknown, and still don't download the EPR data.

BTW, the PC is a HP Elite 8000, dual core 3GHz, 8GB, running the latest update of Windows 10.

Open to other suggestions!

TV tuners are often much better at dealing with poor signals than PC based tuners so don't assume ok tv means good signal, especially through a non amplified splitter.
NPVR Version= 7.0.1.241229
Intel i5 Ten Core 14400 + 16GB DDR5 in Gigabyte B760 AX Motherboard
Windows 11 Pro 64bit
TBS-6902 dual DVB-S tuner
TBS-6205 quad DVB-T tuner
500Gb System Disk (M2 Nvme SSD)
4Tb Media Store (2 x 2Tb M2 Nvme SSD Spanned)

Raspberry Pi3 B+, Pi4B (OSMC) & Pi5 (XBian) running Kodi v21.1

Stop and restart NextPVR (to start a new log) ... Do a channel scan ... Go to NextPVR Settings --> About ... and use the button to zip the logs and attach the logs to a post. Thanks.

Interestingly enough, the EPG details have populated now, but still getting "Unknown" as the channel names. Hopefully I've captured enough in the log.

The NPVR.log has many entries like …

Quote:2018-05-30 01:08:12.118 [DEBUG][1] locked=1, present=1, strength=83, quality=49 (took 31ms to check)

The "quality" entry is low … a value above 80 would be better for this device.

The log entry indicates that the tuner is receiving a low strength signal from the aerial. Try scanning again with after removing as many splitters and extension coax cables as possible.

The signal might be borderline and might be okay for for viewing and recording but no so much for scanning for channels.

If it's consistently giving 'unknown' on this frequency, download the evaluation of TSCapture from https://tscapture.com, and a capture 30 second full transport stream from that frequency. Put the file somewhere like dropbox or onedrive, and let me know the download URL and I'll check.

Thanks for the feedback! Given that I've already tried without the splitter, I'll get a replacement cable, and replace the wall socket, as the connection doesn't feel that "solid" anyway. I'll let you know how I go...

Thanks again!
