When I first start watching anything (recorded or live) the AC3 codec will be being used and I have audio, quite often when changing channels (even just stopping and tuning to the same channel) I will lose sound and when I check the information pop up (ctrl+i) it shows that the AAC codec is being used. So it appears for some reason nextPVR is trying to use the wrong codec, the only thing that fixes it when it happens is a full system reboot.

I use a colossus 2 with a set top box and HDMI.

If you do a recording, then play it back, does pressing ctrl-i report the correct audio codec?

No, I'm pretty sure it's reporting the wrong codec. When I do have sound the AC3 codec is reported (I've tried maybe 15 different channels), when the sound is missing on the same channels the AAC codec is reported.

This issue used to only occur every once in a while, since the latest update it is a lot more frequent, usually only after changing the channel 2 or 3 times. Once the AAC codec is incorrectly reported it stays that way until I reboot. I've tried watching the video files in Microsoft Movies & TV and the audio is fine.

Please supply a short sample recording and I'll check.

AC3 is complicated with these Colossus2/HDPVR2 devices. These devices are only capable of encoding AAC audio. There are some scenarios where it can do AC3 pass through, but if things aren't entirely right, it falls back to AAC.

Can you put a longer file on your google drive? Like 30 seconds or so.

Do you also want a sample of the same channel and program with the sound working and the AC3 codec being reported?

So, I tried watching recordings that had no sound in NPVR that it reported as AAC with VLC. VLC played the sound just fine and reported the AC3 codec, so I would say the issue is definitely with NPVR.

The problem is that it the recording starts out as AAC for a short time, before changing to AC3, and NextPVR has looked at the started of the file, determined it's AAC, and setup for AAC playback (by only adding the AAC decoder), then started playback, and about a second later, it's switched to AC3. The problem is starting with the way your set top box is turning AC3 on/off when changing channels.

I'm thinking about the best way for NextPVR to handle playback when this happens.
