I've had this issue for about the last 3-4 program updates and it's quite annoying. I use NextPVR to play television programs recorded onto my computer (.ts files) via an "AVerMedia H826 Hybrid TV BDA" tuner. Since I'm recording from an aerial antenna, the reception is not always the greatest and I get digital artifacts in the video. Before 3-4 updates ago, this wouldn't be an issue and the program would just play it with the digital hiccups and everything would be fine. Now anytime there's even a hint of a digital artifact, the program crashes with a "NextPVR has stopped working..." popup.

I remember reading in the change log a while back that there was a fix for what I thought was this exact issue, but yet I keep having problems. Is there a workaround to this problem? Any help is appreciated, thank you!

As a start, in order for us to offer help, you need to post your NextPVR logs from immediately after a crash.
There may also be entries in the Windows event log which would be helpful.
Also tell us about your system config. What version of windows you're using and what your video/audio decoders are set to in NextPVR config.
NPVR Version= 7.0.1.241229
Intel i5 Ten Core 14400 + 16GB DDR5 in Gigabyte B760 AX Motherboard
Windows 11 Pro 64bit
TBS-6902 dual DVB-S tuner
TBS-6205 quad DVB-T tuner
500Gb System Disk (M2 Nvme SSD)
4Tb Media Store (2 x 2Tb M2 Nvme SSD Spanned)

Raspberry Pi3 B+, Pi4B (OSMC) & Pi5 (XBian) running Kodi v21.1

Sorry, you'll have to walk me through this. Where do I go to find the logs? Where do I go to find the NextPVR config?

I'm Win 7 64bit.

These are the last three application errors that came up in the event log. They didn't happen at the same time, so I'm adding a time stamp so you can see..

If the file is bad the logs won't typically help. Sub usually asks for a link to a file stored on the cloud to see what he might do but you should get a better antenna. You might try to enable the legacy TS reader in setup to see if it gets you back to the older logic.

Yeah, if you can supply a sample recording that causes it to crash, I'll try reproducing the issue here and fix the crash.

As I stated I've never had an issue with this antenna till 3-4 updates ago of NextPVR. Before then it would ignore any digital hiccups and keep playing, but now it's crashing from it. Having digital artifacts has always been a thing with my recordings because of where I live. (hell I even have the same problem on our Tivo that has a house antenna hooked up to it.) I doubt the antenna is the problem here, it's the sensitivity to the artifacts and NextPVR choking from it.

Something I forgot to mention last time is the decoders. I don't recall ever messing with these so I think this is what was set when I installed the program... I think...

Renderers:
Video: EVR
Audio/Music: Default

Video Decoders:
MPEG2 Video: Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder
H.264 Video: Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder
HEVC Video: Disabled

Audio Decoders:
MPEG1 Audio: Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder
AC3 Audio: AC3Filter
E-AC3 Audio: LAV Audio Decoder
AAC Audio: LAV Audio Decoder
HE-AAC Audio: LAV Audio Decoder

As mentioned, if you can supply a sample recording, I'll run it up here to see what is causing it to crash.

You can put the file somewhere like dropbox or onedrive, and let me know the download link.

Ok an update on this. I didn't have any video files to show you as I deleted them all, so I recorded random stuff overnight. I just went through them all and found a few that crashed the program. Went into the event viewer, but this time something was different (from my previous crashes I listed earlier in this thread.)

Every event viewer crash now pointed to a single .dll file that was associated with my video card. On a hunch I went and updated my video card's drivers and rebooted. Went back in and tried playing the same files that gave me problems and now all of them play without crashing.

I'm not sure why that file was causing the problem, but for now it seems the problem is fixed. Thanks everyone!

Spoke too soon. I had like one good day without a problem, but now it's starting again. It's the same .dll, but this appears to be a Windows .dll but found instances of people with Nvidia cards having that file crash on them. Still investigating. Weeeeeeeeee.
