I posted this last night but can't find it today so I'm posting it again.

When I try to play a recording I get a message saying "You haven't configured an MPEG-2 video decoder" but I have.

When I go into settings the video decoder is set to LAV.

I have tried changing the decoder, updating LAV to the latest version and rebooting, but nothing seems to work.

The strange thing is that video was playing fine an hour earlier and I have made no changes.

What do I need to do to sort this out?

Recreate the problem and attach logs to a post telling us the time that you got the error message so that we know where to look in the logs. Thanks.

I have managed to resolve the issue but I don't know what happened to cause it in the first place. There were no changes on the PC in between it working and not working. I watched an H264 recording, then an MPEG-2, followed by another H264 and all worked. Then I went to watch another MPEG-2 recording and I got no picture. NextPVR told me that I had no decoder.

As I couldn't find anyway of getting it to work. I again uninstalled the LAV decoder. But this time instead of re-installing it using LAVFilters I installed the K-Lite_Codec_Pack_1460_Standard. That worked. Or at least it does at the moment.

However, there does seem to be a problem with playing some recordings that I have had for sometime. I've also seen other people reporting it on the forum. When I play a recording I sometimes get a black screen. But if I press ESC and then select Resume the recording plays. If I play the recording in any other software it always plays. This problem has happened since installing K-Lite.

Again, I have no idea why this happens but hopefully that gives you some info to work with. Is there a difference between play and resume? If it's just a decoder issue then why the difference?

Some decoders hang either when you start playing or more commonly when you skip (usually another skip will get it going again). Beats me as to why. Many decoders don't tolerate imperfect streams (i.e. what we get with broadcast TV) very well. The only decoder I know that always works great is the Microsoft DVD-DTV decoder, which used to be included with Windows 7 but not with Windows 10 unless it was upgraded from 7. (not that there are no other decoders that work)
