Using Kodi 18.2 & npvr 4.2.4 as server.

1. In Advanced settings --> Live TV Stream; What is are the 3 settings intended to do -- Real Time, Time Shift, & Extended Time Shift?

2. What do the "Live Tv and Recording Chunk sizes" affect?

Reason I am asking is that I noticed that when Extended TimeShift was enabled, I was getting a lot of buffering while watching live TV, but no such buffering with Real Time settig or when using NPVR as client watching same channel. Also, I have had no such issues with K17.

I am trying to understand what is going on with K18 & n4.2.4.

1. Real Time - straight play no timeshifting but most stable

Timeshift scroll back buffer can get overwritten, less disk space required, no prebuffering required. Recording start with the time you hit record button. New implementation for v18

Extended Timeshift, 3-4 program history of recordings. Can record current show from the time you were watching the channel. New in later versions of v18

2. If you are happy with Timeshift or Real Time then those options don't matter. If you have trouble with pixelation in Extended mode increase the pre-buffer time. Chunk sizes are for recordings and Live TV playback adjust an internal buffer to tweak playback.

Thanks Martin!

The more I am using K18.2, the more issues I am seeing playing Live TV, on all my clients.

1. Trying both Real Time and Timeshift, I still am seeing buffering, no pixelation, just a pause with the Kodi spinning wheel waiting for it to receive more stream data.
2. In addition, about 25% of the time when starting LiveTV, Kodi completely crashes - to the desktop.
3. After LiveTV has been playing for a while, play is randomly freezing.

I must be doing something fundamentally wrong with K18. K17 has worked fine regarding those issues above. Also, no problemo when using npvr as client. All problems started with installation of K18.
I am in middle of moving residences and don't have a bunch of time to play with this right now. My quick and dirty solution for the moment is to revert back to K17.

Ok I will treat this as a user specific issue until you have time to upload your Kodi debug logs and NextPVR logs running in Real Time mode.

Martin,

I took one of my client PCs and reverted back to K17.6. But when I tried to install/re-enable the npvr pvr client in the K17 PC, there was no longer an option to select the npvr client in the add-on browswer for pvr clients. Is there a place where I can download a standalone version of the npvr client for K17?

In v17 they are distributed with the setup program.

That's what I thought, but the option to select the npvr pvr client is missing when reverting from K18 to K17.6.

I'm testing an add-on under Kodi 19 for compatibility with Python 3. Your current client is incompatible with version 19. Do you have a basic PVR add-on that is compatible with Kodi version 19? I'm running nextPVR version 4.2.4 on my backend Windows server.

Thank you in advance

Why couldn't you have opened a new thread with a relevant subject? It will help others who might ahve the same problem

Because of v5 testing I haven't even loaded up v19 to test pvr.nextpvr. My python addon knewc might work.

Sorry, I thought this thread subject was the most appropriate one.
Is there a way for me to get knewc as a zip file just so I can get past my testing?
