I have been using OTA for years. NextPVR in the past few, which I love.

Something has happened to my local reception in the past several months. Don't know if it is the trees growing taller or an issue with the broadcast stations. Anyway, it is an issue and I am considering switching back to FIOS.

I think am going to wait for the new Silicon Dust Prime 6 to come out before I make a move.

I understand I need a cable card for the device. FIOS charges $4.99. I did a search and am not finding any alternative sources where I can just purchase the card. Am I stuck with paying FIOS or can the card be purchased somewhere?

Should NPVR be able to record from all 6 channels (once the driver for the new tuner has been developed of course Wink )?

Are there other alternatives to the HD Homerun?

Assuming SiliconDust doesn't make any major changes, NextPVR should be compatible with it as soon as it is released.

When it comes to CableCard devices, the only other viable device these days are the Hauppauge DCR devices, but they're just rebadged SiliconDust devices. You're probably better off with a SiliconDust device.

Think you are stuck renting from fios. You can buy the proper card type on ebay for $5-10 but as far as I know fios won't activate a card not supplied by them.

Fios drms fox owned cable channels (Fox News, FX, Fox Sports 1, etc.) so you won't be able to record/watch them in NextPVR. WMC is only option for those channels or if Silicon Dust ever finishes their dvr software.

If you're set on 6 tuners then you can wait for SD model or try your luck finding a used ceton InfiniTV 6 model. Some people seemed to have problems with them so you'd be wise to research more before buying. The 3 tuner prime, 2 tuner hauppauge and 4 tuner cetons are only other cable card options but none are made anymore.

Why would it work with WMC and not NextPVR? I gave up WMC because eof the hassle to get it to work on Windows 10. NextOVR is so much easier along with the day to day operation.

Is it just Fox News and Fox sports that are affected? What about the local Fox affiliate?

Is there a list somewhere? Searched could not find one. Will try direct on this site.

Edit: Did some new searches. I see the premium channels are protected as well? I likely would never pay for those.

Don't think there is a list. You'll see which ones are not available when they dont show up in the NextPVR channel scan.

Local fox affiliates are not effected.

Its all the news and business channels, all the nat geo channels, most of sports stuff, FS2 not effected and most fx networks, I believe one of them is fine but can't remember which one.

Only premiums effected are hbo, all the others are fine

Silicon Dust has been promising the 6-Tuner HD HomeRun Prime for several years now. Is there any evidence that they're ever going to really build it?
i3-3570k, 8GB RAM, Win10 Pro, Nvidia GT710, HDHomeRun (OTA), NPVR 6.x

Well that stinks if it is FX. Used to be one of the better station as I

So what is the major underlying issue? I mean, if you have a subscription and have a card, why is it not treated like a fios dvr? Or can't you copy thr content out of the FIOS DVR so they can't be distributed. .

DVR's typically are protected. Even with WMC the DRM files cannot be copied to other machines.
