Nvidia Shield No Audio Out When Using Direct Play

I have three Nvidia Shield boxes. One is connect to a surround sound system. On that system with Direct Play enabled my receiver indicates Dolby Digital audio. On the other boxes, however, with direct play enabled I get no audio. When I have direct play not enabled I do get audio but then the picture freezes and buffers. If I use Kodi, however, I have no audio or video issues, but of course I lose my surround sound. So far I've tried various trial and error approaches including the use of LAV, but nothing gives me audio. Any ideas from anyone?

Do you have pass through audio set on the devices that don't have sound?

Do you have surround sound set to Never (based on what I read on google)

I tried that as well but it had no effect. I can’t be the only one with this issue.

I have this issue as well. and it doesnt work on two of my phones too!
