I've noticed occasionally of "members" posting totally irrelevant posts across several threads. Do you think this poster, "alifaj1," is a bot? Can it be blocked?

I see alifaj, alifaj1 and alifaj11.  Maybe they are siblings and their parents aren't very creative about names.  Smile

We get a few of these a week. I'm usually pretty quick to purge them and their posts, so most people never see them, unless they're posted overnight while I'm sleeping. I've been a busy day job stuff the last few weeks, so haven't been quite as quick at getting to them.

No worries, sub. I just wish there was an easy way for admins to test for bots before allowing membership. C'est la vie!

Sub, I got spam PM one of these new users. Can you disable PM from new users or do I need to disable PM?

To be honest, I'm not sure I can disable PM on new users. I'll check.

If you've still got it, can you let me know what the user ID was?

I've updated the forum software to the current 1.8.23 point release, and enabled a couple of settings that make it harder for bots to register. Hopefully it'll help.
