I'm just starting to think about ATSC HDTV support, but would need to find some US based help so that I can do the development.

I'm in New Zealand, so I dont have access to ATSC transmissions, so much like I did with DVB-T support for Europe, I'm looking for someone in US that may be able to help me out with a remote login to a box with an HDTV device.

Ideally you'll have:
  • Nice fast broadband internet connection
  • VNC or Windows 'Remote Desktop' setup
  • HDTV device with BDA drivers.
  • ...not required, but would also be helpful if you had Visual Studio.net on the machine.
If you can help out, please PM me.

Damnit, Damnit, Damnit!

I knew I should have bought one of these! It's the only missing piece to my HDTV setup (I already have the TV and Antenna). I just spent all the extra cash I had on my first anniversary holiday (leaving this saturday).

I hope someone steps up to the plate. I would LOVE to see this implemented.

Sub - I posted a link to this request at the byopvr.com forums to try and generate some additional interest. Hope it's helpful.

Hey Sub,

I'll post a news blurb on the front page too.

I only have an HD-3000 which I assume is linux only... if no one else comes to the plate, I'll pick up an HDTV wonder Big Grin I might even have a 60 day visual studio.net CD laying around =)

So I'd be willing, but I don't have an ATI HDTV Wonder or the like handy... (btw what other cards would fit the bill the Air card? Fusion III's?)

Good luck, this is wicked exciting! So just to be clear: if there's not clear canidate that already has an HDTV wonder I'm willing to help, but I don't want to buy another HDTV card if I don't have too.

Cheers rampy.

I really dont know too much about the pros and cons of various HDTV cards, so I was suitably vague in my requirement for 'HDTV device with BDA drivers'.

Sub,

I don’t have a machine yet, but I would be willing to help out.

I will yield a few days for someone else to offer. If nobody else already has a setup, I will configure a dedicated machine, what ever card you want to use, I have a copy of VS 2003 to put on the machine and I can open the port for the VNC or whatever connection you will need.
I have not been able to help in any plug-in development, but this I can help with since all you need is access.
I do need to test what channels I can get OTA so you can have a strong signal to test with, don’t want to waste you time if all you get is snow. Smile

I really would like to get into the HDTV side of things for certain recording on the major networks. This way I can also avoid the broadcast flag issues by ordering the cards before the mandated time. Cool

Let me know if you are interested.

I know you probably know this, but have you tried using antennaweb.org to find out what signals hypothetically are in you area?

Just tell me what card to buy, and where to get it in Canada (or a place that ships to Canada), or anyone with a used card to sell.
As I understand it, there are basically only about 4 or 5 cards on the market, and at least one of them is WDM software.
Does the ATI qualify (although it's expensive here)?
You can never have enough tuners!

Cheers jquinlan, another good offer.

As both yourself and rampy have already suggested, I'll wait a few days to see if we get and offer from someone that already has the hardware and is ready to go, but if not, its good to know we have options.

To be honest I've pretty much ignored this sort of hardware in the past (since its not directly applicable to me), so I'm not really that familar with the options and the pros and cons for each device.

Hopefully someone that knows a bit more about the available devices will pipe up and provide some recommendations.

My primary requirement on the device, is that it should have BDA drivers.

Thx, I have checked and it appears I do have about 6 good signals in my area, just don’t know how good the picture may be for a set top antenna. I have not tested it yet with the one I have. But this site is the best for information if anybody is wondering what is in thier area.
