Morning all.

I’m a new NextPVR user. Everything has been setup for a few days and running nicely. I’m running the server on a Mac mini, with EyeTV Netstream 4sat as the tuner.

So my issue are:

1. I’m unable to select an audio stream when playing live tv or a recording on Apple TV. Defaults to track 1. In the UK, this seems to be for the audio narrative stream or [nar] when there are multiple channels.

2. Can I choose a default audio stream when recording a programme?

Many thanks in advance.

Audio track selection in the web app is on my to-do list. You can do it in other clients like Kodi.

It always records all the track available with a channel.

Hey Sub,

Thanks for replying. However, I don’t watch TV through a browser… I watch it on a large TV with an Apple TV using your NextPVR app.

Can you recommend an Apple TV app that works with NextPVR?

It’s great you record all audio streams. Better and consistent default track selection would be great in the first instance across all NextPVR playback clients if it can be achieved in a reliable way.

As standards across the world describe narrated audio streams differently, maybe a field in settings to add a pattern that could be used to identify those streams would work? E.g in the UK most narrated audio streams have [nar] in the title.

The ability to choose a specific audio track for me is secondary if the default works consistently. But it is something I would love to have… again across all of NextPVR clients.

Do you have some kind of roadmap for NextPVR so we know what is happening with the product?

On another note, I want to say a big thank you to for creating and actively developing NextPVR. I’ve only been a user for a week. I had a virtually trouble-free installation on my mac, a little intensive and manual channel setup… but all has worked out great. I sent over a $40 donation to help move the product forward… and will continue to do so regularly.  It is what I was going to pay for another product that is no longer being developed. I have also purchased your AppleTV and iPad apps too. So… I’m all in.

Cheers,

Paul

Glad you're enjoying your NextPVR experience so far.

True, the Apple TV app doesn't currently let you choose from audio/subtitle streams. I've been experimenting with adding this today, and have almost got it going (just got to finish some UI stuff in the Apple TV app to allow the selection). I'll try to get a new release out in the next week or so.

It's annoying a couple of UK broadcasters put the [nar] stream as the primary audio stream. Other than those channels, the default streams are usually perfect.

How are you getting on with resolving this bug? I'm unable to watch programmes with the constant narration and no way to turn if off.

Cheers.

Can you supply an example recording that has this problem, so I can try reproduce it here?

Hi

Here is the recording as requested. https://1drv.ms/v/s!AoUxidtNzS6RkEOm1O2o...Z?e=34YhUh

With the latest version of tv OS on a 4k Apple TV, there are some major usability bugs that have surfaced; -

  1. Unable to pause / play live tv
  2. Unable to pause / play recorded tv.
  3. When you press the menu button on the remote, the app quits instead of going back to the menu or guide. When you reopen, the recording is still playing. You have to force quit the app.
  4. Unable to fast forward or rewind consistently.
  5. I'm running the latest NextPVR
Thanks.

Yep - there is a couple of posts indicating these problems on tvOS 14.x. I'm going to take a look this weekend.

I'm encountering this all the time now.

Web app on PC is stuck on [NAR] streams (narration I assume) on most of the main channels (BBC and stuff), and no way to turn it off.

Apple TV also plays [NAR], but you can turn it off. But if you scrub the time back/forward at all then it resets to [NAR]
If you stop watching that program and go back in, it's back on [NAR]
Pause/play, retains the selected audio stream.

There definitely needs to be some kind of option somewhere to set default audio streams, maybe using wildcards or something?

From what I can see on all the UK channels I've tried, it's either:

- Not a problem, all works ok, no change needed.
- [NAR] is selected as default instead of [English]

The selection structure/order is usually.

- no audio
- [NAR]
- [English]

I assume usually the 'slot 1' is the non-narrated stream, but lots of channels use 'slot 2' for the non-narrated stream.

I'm happy to try collate as much info as possible across a range of UK channels for the audio streams selections if it would help you figure out a way to have the software choose the best stream to default to.

Thankfully recordings save all streams if you "save the original stream" for recordings (rather than transcode saving).

I do think that there is a bug in the selection of audio stream though, and it resetting back to [NAR] after scrubbing the timeline while watching a program.
