I noticed that also, that as it adds the new skip points they're really not right.  On the recording I watched tonight that survived, the skip points were way off as I exited playback, which was well after comskip finished and put the finished skip points in the .edl file.  When I played the recording again, the skip points were totally different, and pretty much spot-on; one skip could've been a professional edit.

I hope sub will forgive me for saying, this all worked much better with the old nextpvr.  I remember when sub first added the code to periodically re-load the skip points during playback, including the finalized skips when comskip finished; the skip points would just magically switch to near-perfect a minute or so after the recording finished.

Martin, give it a try with the recording service running as a user process. I'm going to do a couple more tests, but so far I've had 5 of 5 recordings deleted while running as a user process, and 1 of 1 NOT deleted while running as a service.

ok, definitely has to do with running the recording service as a user process, and watching a recording in-progress.
I watched an episode of Seinfeld with the recording service running as a service; the recording was not deleted.
then I stopped the recording service and launched it as a user process, and then watched a 2nd episode of Seinfeld in-progress. when the recording ended, the .ts file was deleted and the recording disappeared from the database.

So I'm 6 for 6 on recordings being deleted with the recording service running as a user process, and 2 for 2 on recordings NOT being deleted with the recording service running as a system service.

I don't know why that makes a difference, but it does.

I'll try adding some logging tomorrow, to see if we can get to the bottom of it.

This may actually have become moot for me: I've determined that the AMD-accelerated video encoding doesn't work well enough to be usable, at least not with the A4-7400k I have, regardless of the profile chosen. It doesn't seem to tax the GPU much, even at 1080p it only shows about 40% GPU load, but quickly falls behind. At 480p, GPU load drops to around 20%, but the transcoding still can't keep up. Conversely the CPU encoding works fine up to about 720p, even though this chip has a lot more GPU power than CPU power.

So if I'm not going to be using the AMD encoding acceleration, then I'll have no further reason to run nrecord as a user process.

That said, I'm happy to help troubleshoot this file deletion issue if you wish.

I don't use Comskip and I have the same problem.
It doesn't happen too often, but usually happens when I stop watching a program towards the latter part of the recording.
I have found for me to keep from loosing a recording I first pause the program and then stop watching the program and the recording will not be automatically deleted.
This seems to have start about 3 or 4 months ago.

At the end of the show there is a dialog to delete a watched recording you have to be careful not to hit delete.

<PromptForDeleteAfterPlayback>true</PromptForDeleteAfterPlayback>

It is dangerous so turn it to false if you want more control.

Post your logs next time it happens, and let us know when it happened and we'll take a look.

I have the same behavior, version 5.2.1 (211003).  In my case, the recording service is set to log on as "Local system account".   I don't use comskip.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Start recording a show.  To speed the process, I stared recording a 30 minute local news program about 15-20 minutes after it started, but I first noticed the issue when recording entire baseball games.

2) Open File Explorer in Windows and change to the folder where the recordings are stored.  Note that both a *.ts and a *.ts.map file are present.  Keep File Explorer open and position it and the NextPvr client windows so they are both visible.

3) Start playing the show *while it is recording* and keep playing till the show completes; this only happens when playing a show while it is still recording.  When the show ends, the last frame from the recording is still displayed, but the play controls bar is not displayed, and the only recourse is to right click the NextPvr client and select Main Menu from the context menu.

Result:

The Main Menu is displayed, and the *.ts and a *.ts.map are deleted (disappear from the File Explorer window).  The folder created for that show in the DVR storage folder remains, with a modified date of the time the recording ended.

I did this with a show called "KEZI News This Morning" today, the recording ended at 0702.  Log files attached.

Update later in the day: I did the test again after my original post, this time the play controls bar remained visible. When I clicked the Stop button after the recording ended and the last frame was still displayed, the files were deleted.

I just duplicated it here too, twice The ts file is gone but there external xml file was there and I had an unplayable recording entry so it is not officially deleted. As I posted above I think it somehow related to not being able to delete the map file, since it does get deleted.
