Hi Martin

XNewa on Kodi 18.8 on Android TV Jumps out Playing Show Currently Recording

As title really but this is repeatable (I did it 3 times for this log);

Scenario A: Watch Show as Live TV → Plays fine without stopping, using the Buffer. At least an hour.

Scenario B: Record Show and Play Recorded Show  → Plays fine for a few second, 15s to 30s maybe, then bails out.
Recording continues though.

Leia 18.8. knewc 2.8.0. Sony Android TV.

Logs attached. Kodi Log below.

Any ideas on this one please?

It seems that this the same still the same issue https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=59863 It is fixed in in the pvr addon but I cannot control http playback or h/w decoding so any comments in that old thread still apply.

I think you are right that is the same behaviour.

Sorry Martin, seems I never really got to the bottom of it TBH, I have SMB shares working OK, a Kodi Buffer working OK, a shared SMB Buffer working OK.

I can, if needed, can try to change the SMB share to NFS using Hanewin which I bought a few years ago. if you think this issue is simply not able to be saved with my HW, I will drop it, I had forgotten about the similar Question in knewc 2.7.4 but am willing to try whatever it takes, if there is hope :-).

I am pretty sure you did the right thing opening a post on the Kodi forum since I think ffmpeg would need to be updated, I doubt NFS will help. I will see if I can it up to the addon playback since that is working.

OK thank you Martin. I asked again in the same Kodi thread (no-one replied last time, maybe this time).
I guess hunting down an ffmpeg 'nightly' and dropping that in somewhere as a quick and dirty fix is not a viable solution :-)?

No ffmpeg is built 10 so it won't help. I think I might be able to get this going with Matrix, using the pvr as the player though so you aren't totally out of luck yet.

@jksmurf since I don't really use Leia anymore would you be willing to test in progress playback with Matrix? Here is a demo of it working https://youtu.be/6adNLiq5yQQ .

A few things to note:

- After starting recording you need to wait up to one minute for the PVR addon to receive an update from the backend that there is a recording. This isn't a problem in the addon itself since it automatically updates but the UI client is treated like every other client.

- If you navigate too close to the end Kodi will buffer.

- Live TV will play timeshifted but NextPVR navigation might get confused, it doesn't really know that UI client can timeshift

Hi Martin - sure - but I'd need to update my Sony TV to Matrix right (will need to work out how to D/L apk to do this)? It is on the TV I have had the issue, never tried to replicate the issue on the Pi.

Or could I test this on an RPi4 with Kodi Matrix (I can do a second micro-SD Card).

Yes you would need to upgrade. I have been using Matrix for months now with no specific issues and I expect it is fine with the nigthlies. It is mainly skins and addons that are holding things back from wider adoption.

You can test on either system but I have no idea of the state of the LE nightlies now that Millhouse stopped making good releases. OSMC isn't getting test builds right now either.

OK ta, might go for the safer RPi option to Matrix. Was using Milhouse before but that was when you didn't support Matrix for knewc due to some whacko snake thingy IIRC. Will need a few days to get setup from scratch. Will let you know when I am ready :-).
