This only happens when NextPVR is recording a program so why it may not be NextPVR directly it has something to do with the problem.  This is a Windows 8.1 machine that I administer over RDP and lately I find the machine has been disconnected from RDP and there is no way to login so I have to access it directly but the lock screen is unresponsive and the only option is to restart the machine.

This is aggravating because this is a machine I only access usually with RDP so I may not notice for half a day that the machine is locked up and I loose many recordings.  All the lights are on and the machine is running.....it just isn't actually doing anything.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You might want to check out the NextPVR Gadget. I have my server in the basement and only access it via RDP when changing something, etc. (which is even less frequent now that most NextPVR settings are changed via the web interface). But I use the gadget on my laptop so that I have a constant "monitor" of what's currently recording, what's coming up to be recorded, etc. And if the server isn't responding, it will show no data/error when it tries to refresh, so I notice that something is wrong.

If it only hangs when recording then it's llkely a problem with the tuner or motherboard drivers.

First rule of support is to provide the zipped NextPVR logs.  I'd probably also check the Windows event logs since it is very unlikely NextPVR could impact the RDP server, so like gED suggested check the drivers.

In addition to the gadget the NextPVR tray app can connect to remote servers.  These assume the http server or networking stops.

But if I turn off NextPVR and let WMC do all the recording it is rock solid and never misses a beat for as long as the power is on so I can't see this as an issue with drivers.....unless it's a problem NextPVR has with the drivers....and hence, not the drivers.

Post the logs and let us know what time the problem is happening.

Given we're not having other people reporting this, it does seem likely it's something the driver is doing. NextPVR could easily be doing some sequence of steps in a slightly different way than WMC, and maybe this is something that triggers up bug in the specific driver you're using.

I can't find the logs. They are not in the NextPVR/data/logs directory since there is no log directory at all.

Get them zipped from the main settings page and attach the zip file.

Use the 'log files' button in the Settings page.

Here are the logs as requested.  I didn't read them as they would be Greek to me.  I'm beginning to believe you guys are right about motherboard drivers or such.....will the logs give any indication of the error if it is outside NextPVR?
