Sorry, I don't mean to sound ungrateful !!! I know you are doing this for the benefit of everyone else!!!

I currently pay for Emby, but HATE the convoluted remote access login process. Additionally it doesn't seem to handle IPTV quite as well as NextPVR appeared to do, and they are not as responsive to comments/requests as you are. Emby does pull the guide data fine, but the recordings seem to completely give up if there is even the slightest issue with the stream, so I ended up with lots of recordings only capturing the first few minutes. These same channels seemed to play fine though when not recorded. Hardware acceleration works great too on my GTX 1650.

Jellyfin has a much more appealing remote access/login procedure for me but their IPTV is also completely broken at the moment. Recording IPTV seemed slightly better but again for some reason NextPVR felt more reliable.

My plan is to use NextPVR to handle IPTV recording and drop recording where Emby/Jellyfin can access. This seems to work well since I don't change the streams I want to record very often so using a different app to control recordings is OK with me.

My frustration is that I am sooooooo close to what I consider a great setup/configuration but just not quite there.

Anyhow, just wanted to let you know I am really grateful for your work on NextPVR.

I will send you my details so you can investigate in more detail.

BR,
Steve

Did you see if those patches helped?

Sorry this took so long to get to. My PC died and I had to replace the MB/CPU Sad

So, after swapping out my MB/CPU and the patched files the EPG loaded REALLY quickly and seemed to populate pretty much everything I expected.

I still have a lot of channels which cause stream errors (which I have been recording from with Emby without major issues) but I am not 100% sure if those are real stream issues or NextPVR issues. I have also not fully checked out that recordings truly complete correctly, but I have set up some recordings to check. I will report back tomorrow.

I will update you next year Smile Smile Smile

Have a great New Year.

I haven't attempted to watch any of your channels, but I did take a good look at the xmltv content returned from your IPTV provider. (I can decrypt the urls in logs)

They have some weird bug, where they will usually return a partial xml file, like they just give up and drop the connection after some timeout, but because they don't return a content length, the calling application has no idea it's bad data until it tries to use it...then you get those xml errors about it being invalid because tags aren't closed. The fix was setting some extra headers to request the IPTV provider gzip the data before delivery, and this seems to help get the content before the timeout is hit. This is clearly a bug at the IPTV provider end, but we at least have work around.

If you want to post logs showing this, we'll take a look.

Thanks again for the quick response. The latest build seems to retrieve the EPG fine now Smile

I am, however, seeing a new issue now. Basically most recordings fail after a few minutes (I can't remember if I actually received a full recording yet since I have been messing with Emby and Jellyfin too). My testing over the past few days though has been entirely NextPVR though and at least 4 recordings failed, but NextPVR shows as "recording" even when the recording stops. I understand there are a million reasons why the stream could be stalled etc... but it would be great if NextPVR continued to try and restart the recording. VLC is able to play the stream directly so it isn't that the stream is no longer available, but that for some reason NextPVR had an issue and then just gave up. I don't know yet if Emby and Jellyfin have the same issue yet (I think yes to some degree since that is why I switched to NextPVR in the first place) but I don't know if it is to the same degree as I am currently seeing with NextPVR.

Should I start a new thread for this?

Regards,
Steve

Yes, create a new thread. Include logs.

It's not uncommon for IPTV services to be flakey as hell, dropping connections etc. ie, they often seem fine at first glance, since you can successfully watch a couple of minutes of connect....but they often the streams can't be relied on for solid recordings etc.

There is still an issue in NextPVR when the m3u8 fails, since the recording data continues to the end even when it is known data is not being delivered. I understand this is acting like a tuner but since it is clear to NextPVR that the data has stopped in the logs. It would be nice to mark it failed rather then having to "forget" it manually.
