Installed successfully (?) after a couple of attempts on Ubuntu 20.04, it says NextPVR server is running, but I am unable to open 127.0.0.1:8866.

Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at 127.0.0.1:8866.

If it took a couple of attempts there is probably another issue. First You may have installed as root which isn't supported because NextPVR doesn't like that. I wouldn't expect it to crash but this doesn't look good.

I would

cd /var/opt
sudo rm -R nextpvr

and then as your normal user account with sudo rights

sudo dpkg -i nextpvr-helper.deb

and see if that starts.

Not sure I did that right, but it's still not working.  Maybe it's not finding the .NET installation?

Maybe the .net download failed. Try removing the zip files from /tmp as sudo and do the dpkg again

Don't know what I did wrong, but I had a hell of a time getting .NET installed correctly. It's working now, but I'm probably going to stick to Windows for a while. Thanks for your help.

Definitely odd since you should not have had to do anything. Did you recall any extra steps.

I thought I was following the instructions. Is it necessary to install .NET directly from Microsoft or is it included in the NPVR bundle?

On Linux, it is not included in NPVR.zip but it should be installed when you use the .deb installer.

On Docker and on Windows there is no need to install .NET, it is included.

On Linux or macOS with a manual install you need to install it.
