Hi Graham.  You wrote ...dragons....?  is this a typo or tech term I have not learned?

1) So having an unused tuner on say a dual tuner device will not allow smooth watching or recording on tuner 1 while tuner 2 is being used to update the epg? Or it does not work that way?

2) The tuner you said the log file showed as failing is one that was removed from this computer years ago.  At the time I tried to delete it from the device list but could not for some reason.  I tried again today and it got deleted right away.  So I reran the update epg and got the same resuilts... no epg on 2.1, 2,2, 2.3, 2,4.  Channel 42 is marginal signal so I dont expect it to show anything.  Here is the new log file with the tuner removed.

In all the years since atsc was introduced I have never found myself dissatisfied with OTA epg.  Being an old guy I grew up with no epg unless you picked up the newspaper and looked at the tv listings.  So I have no issue with what OTA EPG delivers.  Low motivation to look for more.

with atsc PBS epg is the best, american networks are pretty good and the canadian ones are hit and miss but as its free they get a lot of latitude Smile  Of course a paid epg solution enhances satisfaction Smile Smile  somewhat.

There are buttons in Settings that allow you to export the recording data from the NextPVR database into files.  You can import this recording data back into the database.

A possible sequence might be ... Stop the NextPVR Recording Service ... export recording data to files ... rename the npvr.db3 database file to something else (so that you can rename it back later if necessary) ... Reboot ... NextPVR Recording Service will restart and will create a new empty database ... Start NextPVR.exe and redo all of your devices and settings ... Import the recording database files ... Reboot again ... Sing Hallelujah.

From what I can tell in the logs, it seems to be downloading listings just fine. These are what it got for each channel:

As mentioned NextPVR only pulls in EPG listings at the specified EPG update time(s), not when you're just watching TV. It does it this way for a variety of reasons. At the end of the EPG Update, it also updates the recording schedule, to make sure any episodes needing recording are identified and scheduled. (it'd be a pain to do this as shows trickle if the user happens to be watching a specific channel....and to have recordings missed on other channels because NextPVR didn't know what the EPG listings were for other channels etc)

Sorry, right you are. Did I mention it's new years day morning, and my brain is still a little pickled from last night.

You're right, the one DVB EPG channel was skipped because the device was in use.

Nope .. I am looking for the dvb channels which I specially set up for this demonstration 2.1,2.2,2.3,2.4. (I can see the OTA epg info on a standalone h/w tuner so it should be here too.).  the rest come from xml or SD and are just there for comparision.  There is no device in use.  that is fake news.. .. it does not exist.. was removed a few years ago as it was replaced by another tuner dual HD key which is here now.  The removed tuner could not be removed from the database as the software would not allow it at the time for some reason... but after graham mentioned it... i tried again... and I guess a few versions of software later... it finally went.

channel 42 is not a good example as that is a fringe station... and signal may not be there.. and so no dvb too.

what is the best way to prove if dvb features work or not in this situation?  Please Tell me what to do..

I will folllow your steps and provide feedback on what is going on.    should I erase the entire setup and reload the drivers and the 4.2.5 app? (I fiddled with the dvb on ver 5 on a different computer and concluded that the dvb on that version is buggy.     so I am hoping that 4.2.5 is in working order as its older... once I can figure out what is wrong here)

From that scan you didn't set it your test properly. I'm dropping out of this thread, how can this effort be worth saving a cup of coffee a month.

That'll be he likely reason for this. "Device is in-use" isn't really the correct message - it should really be "specified device is not available" message. When you're using the DVB EPG, it's associated with the tuner that was first used to scanned that device in. It always uses that device to pull in the EPG for this channel.

Given your description above, I'd probably just delete the channel you'd like to receive the DVB EPG for (from the Settings->Channels tab), then rescan it on one of your current devices, then do the Update EPG. Make sure you delete the channel

I'm not sure what makes you think that - in my view v5 is worlds better than v4 ever was.
