transport stream vs m3u8 IPTV streams

Probably a question for sub, but others may be able to chip in..

I see the latest release mentions a fix - "Improved resiliency for brief outages when streaming/recording from m3u8 streams"

Given a choice of .ts files or .m3u8 for an IPTV service is one a better option than the other?

In theory an m3u8 steam can be interrupted with a apotential for catch-up during any brief disruptions while a ts stream must be continuous and cannot be resumed.
