I noticed this bug the other day when arrowing through the Now Playing menu, where the menu position will unpredictably jump to somewhere else in the channel list. I made a video, as it's easier to watch it happen than to try to describe it.

I've seen that and I think you aren't letting the UI client fully update. Sometimes especially on the slow OSD, the cursor moves after highlighting the show and then whole list box moves with the cursor on the same show. You will see what I mean if you try in NextPVR.exe.

Using the FF and RW keys to page the guide, should be more efficient if you want to browse this way.

Thanks, I see what you're saying about the whole list box moving, and, yep, I'm not always seeing that, which, of course, could be part of the problem. I wonder if it could be that some command packets or whatever are somehow getting dropped? The reason I say this is because I'm noticing situations while arrowing through where the list box will *never* update to having the highlighted channel be at the top of the list box like you're describing, even after letting it sit for a while. And I'm not pressing the up or down arrow repeatedly quickly or anything. I'll experiment with NextPVR.exe on a PC on my network to get a better feel for this.

Regarding using the FF and RW as my primary mode of channel surfing, I've just been avoiding that, mostly because of the channel switching latency and exiting in my setup that we discussed in that other thread. I should actually follow up with you on that with new logs, as I've been testing it with mp3 transcoding, and updated to server version 5.1.2.210603 last week, and had some additional thoughts.

If the highlighting is going back to the first item in the list, I'm guessing it's reloading the list for some reason. It shouldn't be doing this.

It's possibly because it started with the full channel list, and then is trying to recalculate what channels are still available. (because in some scenarios, like a tuner being used for a recording, the list of channels available for live tv is reduced)

I was meaning that in that OSD guide mode, FF and RW act like page up and down so you will send a lot fewer screens if you have a lot of channels to navigate.  I don't see the same behaviour paging in that mode either, but my backend is faster.

Ok, interesting, I just tested NextPVR.exe on the netbook server and couldn't reproduce, nor could I reproduce using the Nlite client on my laptop. It seems the out of order jumping of the selection only happens on the Roku. I *did* see some of that other behavior that you described on NextPVR.exe, where the whole list box would independently update, placing the highlighted channel back at the top of the list after each arrow press -- but it still kept the correct channel selected for me, and would move to the correct channel, up or down. So, only the Roku has the jumping bug thus far.

Is it possible your issue could simply be related to a long press? Long press up and down are normally like channel up/down but when the OSD is showing NextPVR treats them like page keys. I could easily tell in the logs.

I don't think so, but try this log that I created just now. I did not try to long press anything, but I almost immediately saw the bug. Also, something else happened after a little bit where the list box wouldn't let me choose a channel, so you'll probably see me pressing the OK button a few times at the end to no avail, before hitting the back button and exiting.

From those logs key 33 is a long down.

Code:
2021-06-14 19:26:50.221    [DEBUG][29]     - key: 40
2021-06-14 19:26:56.649    [DEBUG][27]     - key: 40
2021-06-14 19:26:58.887    [DEBUG][19]     - key: 40
2021-06-14 19:27:01.911    [DEBUG][19]     - key: 40
2021-06-14 19:27:06.493    [DEBUG][5]     - key: 33
2021-06-14 19:27:09.386    [DEBUG][13]     - key: 40
2021-06-14 19:27:11.992    [DEBUG][19]     - key: 40
2021-06-14 19:27:13.902    [DEBUG][27]     - key: 40
2021-06-14 19:27:16.923    [DEBUG][17]     - key: 40

I do see you hitting the Enter key

2021-06-14 19:28:17.928 [DEBUG][27] LiveTvPlayer.OnKeyDown() called: Enter

With no response back from the server but that would be for sub.

Weird, because I'm pressing the buttons as quickly (shortly, not rapidly or repeatedly) as possible. But now that we know, I tried testing some long presses. I think part of the problem (outside of long presses being too sensitive) is that the Up long press and the Down long press are acting in reverse! Long press up does a page down, and long press down does a page up.
