Sorting recordings

Can anyone explain the difference between sorting A-Z and Date, they seem to give exactly the same result as far as I can see.

They seem pretty self-explanatory to me: sorting A-Z sorts by the title/name of the recording and sort by Date sorts by the date that the recording was made (or is scheduled to be made).

If you are seeing something different, then you should give us specific details like what client you are using and what screen you are looking at and also attach a set of .zipped logs from the Settings screen. There may be a bug where some specific listing isn't sorting correctly or something like that. But we have no information from your post to know where that might be.

They seem pretty self-explanatory to me: sorting A-Z sorts by the title/name of the recording and sort by Date sorts by the date that the recording was made (or is scheduled to be made).

Sorry, should have mentioned it's in the Ready Recordings screen.  I have, for example, many episodes of The Repair Shop, all recorded via a Recurring Recording, some with episode details, some with subtitles, some with neither.  So, in the Ready Recordings screen sorting by name/title achieves nothing as they are all named "The Repair Shop".  I therefore assumed that the NPVR windows client would sort using name/title plus perhaps subtitle or SxxExx episode details or even sort by filename but it seems to simply sort by date so why bother with an A-Z option?

Thank you for the clarification. That helps to understand what you are asking about.

I'm pretty sure that currently NextPVR only uses the Title for the A-Z sorting. So, as you observed, in a list of only the same show, it's not really useful.

There have been wishlist requests to be able to sort by Season/Episode (when it is available). But, I don't think that anything has been done to implement that.

We're pretty much at the mercy of sub for making any changes to this functionality.

Thanks Brett. I did search the subject before posting but all the posts on sorting seemed to be years ago so I wondered if anything had changed in the meantime. I usually want sorting by date so it was more out of interest than something for the wishlist.
