Hi Martin & Sub,

Setup: Win10/NextPVR  5.1.4.210802 host, Nvidia Shield 2019 w/Kodi Matrix and Next PVR client 8.2.6, fibre internet

After many months of trouble-free recording and viewing, TVNZ's "1 News at 6" recordings started getting randomly truncated about a month ago. I typically view start viewing these about half an hour after they start recording - but the truncation doesn't correspond to that moment, nor is its location consistent when it happens.

Example truncation (will be captured in the attached logs): last night's News was truncated about 42 minutes in - the .ts file is about 530MB compared to the previous night's full 800ish.

Fwiw, I can't be 100% certain but the problem seems to have begun about the time Windows 10 updated itself to v21H1.

I tried a few patches like updated nshared.dll (from other threads) in the right places, then a full upgrade or two, getting to the latest version a couple or three days ago. But the intermittent problem recurred last night.

In the logs it looks like you started watching it in kodi about the 40 minute mark. Kodi used to have an issue where it'd only playback as much as was available when playback started (so about 40 minutes or so). It wasnt this you were seeing?

What do you mean? The Matt Huisman urls are just redirects to the official TVNZ etc streams. I'm assuming he's doing this as a method to insulate user's from url changes (so he can just update redirect if TVNZ move it)

Look at 17:57:00 in nrecord.log.1 ffmpeg shouldn't be past that.

If the file is short as described I don't see it as a Kodi issue.  There is an attempt to play it after it is stopped but I need Kodi debug logs for Kodi issues

It looks ok from what I can tell. It does re-encode the audio from these stream.

No, probably not a kodi issue, but it is an interesting coincidence that the truncated duration they mentioned pretty much matched when the playback started from Kodi.

I was suggesting if you pass a Kodi url to ffmpeg you should strip it.

My first theory when it started happening was that it was truncated where I started watching - but I *think* I've seen enough variation in the past month to rule that out. I'll pay very close attention for a few days, just in case.

More's to the point, the file is certainly truncated - I can see that in the TS file, and in VLC and of course I get an end of stream error when, say, checking it (in NPVR's web UI) via the PC's web browser earlier today. It *thinks* it's longer, but it isn't. So, unless Kodi somehow wrongly told NPVR to truncate it at that moment... (which will be in the logs, right?)

If you'd like me to track down Kodi logs from the Shield, I certainly will - but not if it just creates more work for you in an unrelated direction.

Additional system info I didn't mention: I am running ComSkip in parallel processing mode (no changes for at least a year).

Thanks!

I would turn on verbose logging (ctrl held on NextPVR web setting page) and we can see more of those IPTV: messages that are stripped out.

Done. I'll report back with new logs when there's something of interest. It didn't go wrong last night when following my usual recording/watching routine.
