Hi All,

my IPTV provider just added a bunch of VOD content, so i deleted my device and created a fresh one from my m3u to include the VOD groups. NPVR picked up which channels are VOD, and i see them all in the browser in the new VOD section and can play, which is pretty nifty actually Smile  however, as they are picked up as VOD they don't show in the channel list in NPVR, although NPVR seems to have assigned them channel numbers in the background as there is a gap in the channel numbers where i configured the groups/VOD channels in my m3u, and they they don't seem to get passed to Kodi as groups and channels.

it has been over a year since my provider had any VOD content, and back then if i added to NPVR they showed up as groups and channels in Kodi and i could access and play them from the guide in Kodi, but that does not seem to be happening anymore

is there some special way to get to the VOD content in Kodi i am missing? i checked in Nox Silvo to see of there is some option to access a VOD menu or something by adding a menu item, but i could not find anything so can only assume Kodi PVR does not have a VOD option, only guide and channels, and to use VOD it should be accessed via group/channel (Simple IPTV client is working this way and i can get them in the guide in Kodi and play, but would prefer to be able to do that from NPVR and just have one client running in Kodi.)

if as i suspect the functionality does not exist to have VOD separate to channels in Kodi, is there  some setting in NPVR i can change so that VOD is sent as groups and channels as they appear in my m3u, so i can reach them in the guide like i do with simple iptv client?

Thanks!

I would recommend using NextPVR's VOD ability and download them as recordings. PVR barfs at large channel lists.

OK thanks Martin,

would work fine for me but will be lost on the wife! i am only interested in the 4k VOD so only imported the 4k groups to my m3u, there is only bout 500 extra 'channels' in the m3u. i guess i will make a second playlist in my online editor for the 4k groups and feed the url to IPTVsimple as second client, so the wife can browse and play....and make my life a little easier!

I think only an IPTV users would say "only" 500 extra channels. If you only want to watch them live IPTVSimple is a better choice and you don't get into fiddling with disabling the EPG etc.

I feel that showing your wife how to use the NextPVR VOD menu with download feature would not be too hard. It's point and click and easier to use then viewing a static channel list of 500 channels. Plus she can exit and resume, skip, pause without using the Kodi cache etc. It probably works from a tablet or phone too.

VOD is not part of PVR, it is an addon to the web server that allows you to create recording. Kodi PVR doesn't have a VOD download API in core either.

Read just about any forum (Emby, Plex, TVHeadend) and IPTV is notoriously hard to configure especially with crappy providers that don't provide consistent data. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Using a tuner you would have much more stability.

Hi Martin,

I'm interested in having the VOD portion of my provider show up in recordings via Kodi. There's lot of it as I can see it fine in Tivimate on my Android TV but I prefer NextPVR for timeshifting, pausing, etc. It's also way more responsive as I have it installed on an i7, 32GB Ram, NVME drive. I can also run any PC games and any emulators at 4k. Everything is in one interface, no need to switch inputs ever. Can't do that with a little Soc box.

I'm running NPVR 6.1.5.231022 with IPTV configured via XC. I see everything just fine in Kodi, I just don't know what to do to see the VOD in the recordings like others mentioned. Side note, I don't see any VOD in the recordings via the web app or the desktop app. I also notice I don't have the VOD menu next to Scheduler in the web app. I'm not sure if that's normal. I must be doing something wrong.

I'll appreciate any help, thank you!

Sub is responsible for the API that goes to Kodi, but I fully support his decision to treat VOD as a separate type. Sending tens of thousand of channels to Kodi (or any NextPVR client) with a fake EPG and recording them in real time makes no sense. You will get significantly faster downloads with fewer network and general IPTV problems from the web server VOD page and these downloads are stored as recording in Kodi.

If you just want to watch VOD as Live TV pvr.iptvsimple would be better it can also do client based timeshifting.

I hear you, the thing is, for reasons beyond me, Simple Client is blocked by my ISP and if I run behind my ExpressVPN, it makes Kodi crash within seconds. I tried everything to get it running, ghosting my PC to start fresh, etc. No go.

I think my next solution is to just run some external app from Kodi's advanced launcher and when pressing home on my remote, it just kills the active app and returns to Kodi. It's what I did for Netflix, Prime, Youtube Kids, etc. via Kiosk mode.

The web server VOD page parsing to Kodi's recording is that I had in mind. Why would I not see that? I'll start fresh one last time and if it doesn't work, I'll post my log...?

Edit* added my log after I ghosted and configured fresh.
