Is there anyway of using powerdvd latest version with nextpvr for playback?

Sorry, no there isn't. NextPVR is cross platform these days, and the old dvd playback functionality was windows-specific, so wasn't carried across into v5.

(I also no longer have a DVD player in development machine, so no easy way to play around with this anymore)
