What does the Android TV client offer over Kodi?

I've finally setup NextPVR on to my NAS using docker and I have to say its still a wonderful piece of software, especially with the NZ IPTV streams.. solves my issue of no UHF arial and no HD from our Satellite streams.  Next issue is to setup the client on my Android TVs (Nvidia Shields and Sony TVs).  I used to use Kodi with TVheadend and it worked fine and wondered what the native client does that Kodi doesn't?  

I'm not concerned about the cost, I'm happy to contribute to the costs of developing systems such as this but wanted to know if I'm better just 'contributing' rather than buying the app?

What does the Android TV client offer over Kodi?

Not a lot to be honestly. It's a fairly basic application, really aimed at phone/tablet users, but can also run on TV style Android devices.

If you're happy with Kodi, I'd use that.

For people not wanting to run Kodi, or preferring the NextPVR.exe style UI, I'd suggest they check out the much more recent UiDroid application. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-An7VfA0Z8)

In the near future, the Android app is likely to return to it's roots, and only be available for purchase as a phone/tablet app.

Cool thanks. So really, if your app is dropping Android TV then Kodi or UI Droid (plus any others?) are the way to go? I'm just after a simple to use interface that does TV... Kodi was fine but was always cumbersome to get to TV as I use Plex for my other video needs.

Unless you are using Kodi for something else, go with uidroid. You get the same UI as the NextPVR.exe client, the knewc UI client, the Roku client, etc. It's fast and easy.

UI Droid is a different type of application, and is showing you NextPVR's built in 'UI Client' interface (generated on the server). It gives a nice simple to use interface. You can see it in that YouTube video I linked above.

I'm trying to get ui droid running at the moment... I just want a clean simple interface that can get access to Live TV easily.

Hi, when do you think the ui droid app will be ready for beta testing? I'm very interested, and have been looking for a way to replace kodi on my fire tv. I've officially switched to an iptv service, but when using kodi with nextpvr and the iptv service. it takes forever to load. I've been looking for a way to use nlite with my fire tv and this might be what i'm looking for. ANy chance you are able to provide an apk? or are you going to want moneys, like with the android app? either way is fine with me, i just want a way to have it on the fire tv. Also, I have bought the android version of nextpvr from the play store. It works, but it's not as good as nlite. IMHO the android app interface isn't that great, and it doesn't work on the fire tv officially. I have managed to sidelaod the nextpvr app, via my phone to my fire tv, but there are a number of things missing such as the search function. Most things work, but some features don't on the fire tv, such as the search function.

ANyway, i hope you can release this new app soon. I'm looking forward to it
