Hello,

I just setup my HDHomeRun Prime and got it working. I'm trying to setup NextPVR now so I can first watch live TV then setup recording. I've scanned the device and channels for all three tuners, but I can't seem to watch TV through NextPVR. I can watch live TV through HDHR app on Windows. When I click Live TV, the sound for the show starts, but no video, then a popup that says the tuner is required for a recording and I can watch the recording or exit to main menu. I haven't setup any recordings yet.

What do I need to do to fix this?

Thanks,
Jeff

Are you viewing in the desktop app? If so, it's probably a case of not having the appropriate decoders installed on your machine. An easy fix is installing the popular LAV decoders by running https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFilters...taller.exe

OK, I downloaded and installed the decoders. Do I need to change a setting in NPVR now? I tried without changing any settings and I'm getting the same results.

In the setup, there are a few items defaulted unchecked and I didn't bother with those. Should I add those into the install as well?

Try right clicking in the desktop app, and selecting Settings->Decoders, and make sure the LAV decoders are selected.

Without know what settings you're talking about, it's hard to offer any device on them. Generally the default settings are fine for most people.

Oops, I didn't see them the first time. I changed every one that had an LAV option to LAV and restarted my computer and it seems to mostly be working now.

I have 24 hours of EPG through HDHomerun. Is there a way to see that in the TV guide on NPVR?

In the USA, if you're using ATSC, you'll typically only get like 6-12 hours of listings from broadcast (if NextPVR is set to use DVB/ATSC EPG). This is all they transmit. With cable, you'll typically get no listings (because there are none included).

Most people in USA / Canada subscribe to Schedules Direct, which gets them a couple of weeks listings and artwork etc.

SiliconDust license data for their own listings in their software, but it's not available to 3rd part applications like NextPVR.

OK thanks. Trying to avoid subscription based like SD with this project. Was hoping I could transfer HDHR information into a third party like NPVR. If I were to buy the Emby license would I be able to use that in NPVR?

Nope

You can basically use XMLTV listing or Schedules Direct listings.

I understand not wanting to go down the subscription path, but if you're in the states it's kind of hard to avoid for TV listings. At the end of the day, you pay $25, which is fairly cheap - and I suspect if you're still actively using NextPVR after a year, then it's been valuable enough to you that you wont care about spending another $25 for the next year.

You can get XMLTV from the free HDHR data but it is only 4 hours. I might be able to figure out how to get more You can get more with the DVR subscription.

Out of curiosity how do you see an EPG with the Silicon Dust software? I just can find how to get scrolling lists, channel by channel. I think they call it slice
