As sub wrote you need to use the Silicondust software to add your channels.  Once that is done you can import them into NextPVR.  You may need to do this from a Windows PC or go to their forum for support

It sounds like you are telling me it should but that I'll never be able to schedule recordings without a Schedules Direct Lineup or an XMLTV lineup.
It'd usually complete pretty much instantly. It sounds like you need to do the scan with the SiliconDust software, so that it can upload the channel list to their service (so that it's then available when NextPVR asks for the channel list).

Most people in North America go with a Schedules Direct account, because it's super easy. Otherwise, you can look at utilities like zap2xml to download free XMLTV listings. It's then just a matter of going to the Settings->Guide page, clicking the Add XMLTV Lineup button, and entering the filename of your .xml file.

Outside of North America, most people just use the listings that are broadcast with the TV shows. This is super convenient because don't need accounts or extra utilities etc. Unfortunately, the regulations around these were weak in North America, so that part if the world ended up with useless or no listings broadcast with the channels.
